jack.410 0
Hi guys, im very much into shooting and i go with my brother, ive been looking at a new Baikal .410 shotgun(£130) for a while now but im not sure whether to go for it or not. Im only 14, pretty small and not the strongest lad around,(im going to apply for a shotgun certificate soon) and the gun would go on my brothers sgc untill i could swap them over. Would it be a good gun to have in the cabinet when i move on to a 20g? cheers everyone Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
.410's are always useful for somethings. Always a place in my cabinet for one. If you feel comfortable, why not try a 20 straight away? Be better for you in the long run with the choice of ammunition. But if the .410 is your chosen "one" then shoot it for a while until you feel able to move upwards. Certainly have to be precise and accurate with a .410 as well as keeping the range fairly sensible. I have used a Baikal .410 and it shot well enough on Squirrels. Personally I have an AYA single and a Belgian S/S .410. SS Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
go for the 20, as good as a 12 and better then the 410 as a beginners gun Quote Link to post
whippeter69 88
im in the same kinda persition as you mate. My step mum has a license and when i go over my dad i use that(under supervision) im sending off my application on tuesday for a SGC, and when xmas come around i am going to ask for a Mossberg Hushpower pump 410, so if i get my SGC i gave me GIVEN it at 15 hopefully. At the moment i use a 20 Rizzini Emilio OandU, its a great game gun and has a good patern on it but, its quite a heavy gun i find it hard to use and im not small, but im moving back to a 410 as i am doing more rabbiting and 410s are a great caliber for rabbits i hear so im going to back. jack.410 0
Yea i read that the spread is much smaller on a 410,so you need to be a good shot. I think it could still be a good gun, and with christmas i can get money towards it! but before anything i think ill try the 20 when i next go out to see if i could cope with it as i think its heavy gun for me, Im not sure.( Baikal 20ga) cheers for the advice Edited November 9, 2008 by jack.410 Quote Link to post
hiho 5
why dont you get a 12g and use lighter loads? Quote Link to post
jack.410 0
Well we have a o/u lanber sporter 12ga, can i get lighter loads? Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
You can get loads in 12 bore from 21gram to 64. 21 gram have just been released from Hull and another company I cant remember! I have to say that in the main, Baikals are heavy. I have a S/S Baikal and its a lump for a S/S. 21gr loads can be easily found in 20 bore SS Quote Link to post
jack.410 0
ok, what ill do is ask my brother if its difficult to get lighter loads where we are, if so ill look towards the 410 for a bit. jack Quote Link to post
