coursing

Recommended Posts

the law where coursing is concerned is very straight forward after readin clive rees in earth dog runnin dog (cant find the edition it was in) . If your hunting on permission and your dog lifts a hare while off the lead huntin up rabbits, courses and kills the hare with no encouragement from yourself you cannot be prosecuted, so bein seen/caught with a dead hare/hares and dog/dogs is not a case of guilty as some people believe, hunters and the law alike. The problems start when your positivly seen slippin a dog to a hare or encouragin a dog on a course . I cant remember all the article but im positive im right in what im sayin, has someone got the piece by clive reese its well worth knowin all the facts.

Actuallly having permission on the ground would be an advantage ,don't you think? : :icon_redface:

what i dont understand is the reply youve made about " havin permission would be an advantage" all ive done is try to put up a bit of advice that i read so people no where they stand nothin more, the post was put up for people who have permission and could still be pulled by police (who dont know the law, which can and has happened) not for people poachin/ trespassin. anyone caught without permission is fecked anyway.

I wrote a topic some time back that created quite an interest that was about exactly that the keeper forced to shoot the Hares as the div's kept on driving the feilds. The total tally estimated damage with two broken gates, damaged fences and ruined crops came to over £2000 in one evening. Luckly enough the keeper who we know, is so busy he didn't have time to do it and the farmer who is equally as busy eventually forgot it. Needless to say we gaurd our permission as if it were our own wether it be right or wrong.

Just one more thing if you do poach don't break anything, leave everything as you found it and nobody will ever know you have been there ;)

Im just putting the other side of the argument Joe.If you think a farmer being threatened ,his gates and fences being knocked down by 4x4 s and his crops run over by clever little chappies in 4x4s is shallow for saying,"actually dont come any more ",is shallow, thats your opinion.I coursed hares in daylight for over 30 years without a problem.A question for you , do you think the activities of poachers at the present are a positive or negative for the image of coursing and field sports in general? What if it were you who had built up a couple of running grounds over the years kept good relations with the land owner and respected his crops and livestock ,one day you ring up and ask is it ok for me and Fred to come up Sat for a couple of runs on the "rabbits"? only to be told Iv'e had gangs of arseholes all over my land this week I'm shutting up shop and shooting the hares now ,would you be happy?

inan I think the way the media and some fieldsports people are portraying poachers at the moment is negative. Its far to easy to blame it all on poachers! not all poachers drive around the countryside with total disregard for everyone and everything they come across. Was this ban made legal because of the attention the poachers were getting? no it was passed because of the attention of fox hunting with hounds and organised coursing meetings gave to hunting with dogs! Would poaching be getting all this negative attention if there was no ban? I dont think so.

My apologies ,I was a little pissed off due to some good friends of mine losing their permission owing to poachers I should have read your post more thoroughly my fault ,sorry.

Like it or not we are all lumped togetherIve had traveller boys pull up when they see my dogs ,some of them know I belong /belonged to coursing clubs ,and ask me to get them in the club ,these are people I know full well are poaching LIncs Cambridge and Suffolk weekly, have been caught several times and have lost clubs their permission ,yet they ask me to get them running .I'm not suggesting all coursing poachers are travellers,,just giving an example.I think what might be good is if a survey could be done on the amount of Police time and taxpayers money that is spent on enforcing this ridiculous Ban,a friend of mine lives in Huntingdon, and yes he has a lot of permission ,he gets helicopter surveillance allmost weekly ,How much is that costing us for Christ sake ,if we could draw the publics attention to the resources being diverted from combating REAL CRIME like burglary and mugging, maybe we might be left alone more ,but I think we have to do our part by not going onto land in gangs poaching ,I'm not referring to the "one for the pot " bloke here . The resources spent on trying to catch people coursing is a national disgrace, and should be brought to the Public's attention. As to the Ban it was a political act that had nothing to do with animal welfare ,and everything to do with class divide, and the million pound donation the IWWF gave to the Labour Party if it was for the welfare of animals, Rabbiting would have been banned too.

Well said L & B

I've, to my disgust, been out with the more reckess, and seen

the damage that can be caused, but now choose not too hunt that way.

You have to show more respect to the land owner, it is after all his livelyhood you

might be damaging, and I wouldnt take that myself.
