griffo 28
Hi, just thought i'd ask people opinions on how many lurchers is to many? i'm of the thought that 2 working lurchers and a pup either or a veteran retired is enough even if your out day and night. Plus if you go out with your mates who have dogs you could end up with more dogs than runs! Can people justify keeping more? i know there are exceptions such as the coursing boys possibly, and the other thing is does the standard of lurcher get worse the more you've got? by this i mean due to less one on one time and less runs per dog does the standard slip? just a few thoughts and i look forward to hearing your comments, cheers griffo Quote Link to post

If you ever have too many dogs, they wont be given a fair shot, as they need plenty work and the quality will end up poor. I know plenty of lads that keep the one lurcher, as they work a full week and only get a couple of evenings and the weekend to work the dogs. However I know a few, who, like me, spend every waking second working their dogs (or just about!) so they would obviously have more time/work for more dogs. imo Quote Link to post
woz 260
iv got two adult dogs and a pup that will be starting next year..friday night we went out at 7.30 and by 3am myself and the lad i was with both said we wished we had brought two fresh dogs awell as the two we were running, becase the dogs were getting tierd and my old dog was showing signs of tying up.so i put his rug on and gave him some electolites, but that was him finished for the night....................i think if you are serious at it you need two adult dogs,iv had a pup because my older dog will be retireing next season...he has earned his place next to the fire...... I rarely if ever work all 4 together. 2 at night, 2 in the day. 2 for netting and rabbiting. 2 for running. 2 for different game. I will lwt you work it out, lol. I have a beddiwhippetxcolliegrey, salukix, bullx, and a first xbull...... Quote Link to post
