Im Looking To Build A New Ferret Court As Im Hopefully Getting A Couple Of The Stinkers For Christmas And I Dont Want To Buy One A Court As Cost Is An Issue

thats certainly a very noce court...

if i built one is there anything that i shouldnt put in there thant could cause harm to the ferrets if they chewwed t or ate it?

Yes, joined to the shed. But there is no ferret access between the two.

Similar set up to Scots, Mine only spend the day in there. They go in to the shed at night and if I am away from the house.

 

 

There are 3 cages in the shed to the left. Hobs have their own cages, Jills share one

Ferrets are natural escape artists, think along the lines of the A-Team, Mission Impossible then realise BA, Hannibal and Ethan Hunt were mere amateurs. Whilst I have'nt actually seen them build a tank out of paper clips it is only a matter of time. My ferret court (or Stalag 13 1/2 as it's inmates like to call it) was built as thus......

Lay paving slabs to cover approx 7 sqr feet

Mortice 4 x 6ft fence posts together to form a square and lay on top of the slabs

Use a 2 further fence posts and cut one in half and one into two lengths 2 1/2ft long

Bolt the 2 x 3ft lengths to the front of the frame upright in the corners, then the two shorter lenghts at the back. When the roof goes on it will allow the water to run off.

Use strips of wood along the top of the frame to make a lopsided cube

Make a lightweight frame up that will just sit over the uprights (I used an old aluminium green house frame)

Mesh off all four sides (mesh with at least one dimension no larger than 1cm and of heavy guage (not chicken wire)) best obtained from a builders merchant as B&Q charge a fortune

hinge the roof frame to the rear of the main body and screw down corrugated sheet or marine ply for the roof.

Fit a hasp to each of the front corners for padlocks (stops the roof from lifting in the wind and undesirables nicking them)

Drop an old rabbit hutch or a wooden box in to provide a billet (bedding area and shelter from the elements).

Add some tubing from a carpet shop for amusement and you're done.

 

If that seems over the top consider this, a gill weighing 1/2lb will quite happily carry a full grown buck rabbit, they is strong.
