jasper65 6
I noticed with the Pinpointer if I turn it completley Anti clockwise so the sound is off the Audible signal kicks in again when I'm about 12inches above the Transmitter. weather this is supposed to give a more accurate indication how close I am to the Ferret I don't know but I'm now getting the Impresion this Pinpointer is there to help be a little more accurate at close range , can anyone give me some advice on how to use the Pinpointer?...... knocker 0
search using lights with the unit flat, locate using lights when within 8 feet with unit pointing down, then turn your volume up and listen, the beeps get higher pitched as you get closer, put a collar on the ground and practice, if you start directly over the collar with your volume on a bit, you will get an idea of the accuracy or your particular unit that way, the operation of the pinpointer will become instantly clear, the closer to the collar the higher the pitch, as you move away, the pitch drops, doing a cross (up down and side to side) will make it obvious! so wide area......search general area......locate accurate location......pinpointer sound practice with it and it will put you on the collar every time Quote Link to post

stubby 175
mate, use it from the start, turned up full blast, lets say your 10ft away from a collar/fert, but of course you dont know if its left/right/forward or back from where your standing, slowly turn the knob so the bleepings just cuts out, now take a step, forward/or left/or right/or back, the bleeps will only start when your going towards the collar, each couple of steps, turn the knob to cut out the bleeps, again moving only in the direction that starts the bleeps, bleeping, Quote Link to post
Cornio 0
I do the same as stubby. It helps keep the noise down. Quote Link to post

I'll get out and give it a whirl soon now I know what my Nobs for the other thing I have noticed is since I picked up there MK3M collars they seem to give a faster signal than the older MK3 collar, not as if it will perhaps make any difference but I thought I would mention it...... atb Jasper Quote Link to post

I'll admit I feel like capt kirk holding a fazer when using a mk3, but a couple of layers of electrical tape over the speaker holes, cuts that irratating niose down, and the niose is only there for a few seconds, as it only starts once your within distance, its then turned down to just cut out the bleeps then holding it while turning a full 180 degrees, watching the LED's and listening for bleeps a direction can be figured out, the reason I dont just watch the led's, is that they will tell you a distance to the collar, but untill your directly on top of the fert, a reading of say 10ft on the led's, could be either 10ft straight down, or 8ft away and 2ft down, this is why I think a lot of new users, find the mk3 confussing, although its tempting to keep looking at the led's, you can "home" in on the collar purely from using the pinpoint knob, keep turning it down so it just cuts out the bleeps, it will only then bleep again, when your getting nearer to the fert/collar, once the knob has been turned down fully, then your basically "above" the collar, and the led's come into play as you go from search to locate also alot of people start trying to use the mk3 to soon, because they havent seen the fert and get worried, if the ferts is moving underground, trying to pinpoint it is another way the mk3 gets confussing, as it bleeps all over the place, if your worried the unit can be waved around until you get some bleeps, then you know the fert/s is still there, then switch off and put back in your pocket, using it while a ferret is moving will only confuse people, Quote Link to post
stubby 175
and all it does is make thing more complicated everyone to their own, whatever way works for the individual, then great, but..... if it was'ent essential, why did deben not just stop at the mk2, rather than bring out the mk3 its like saying, you can drive a car without using the mirrors, correct, but using mirrors makes driving better Quote Link to post
