DO ALL FERRETS BITE

Recommended Posts

Hi chap,

I've handled my two jill's twice a day every day from kits and they never show agression toward me or friends & strangers. Show'em a bunny & thats a different kettle of fish!

They roll over and play & play-bite with no force. I do think it's all down to the amount of time you spend with them, although an animal may bite if it is surprised.( I've yet to experience this pleasure!)

I don't tempt fate though, wash hands of food before handling and if down a warren, respect they might not be able to identify your fingers if covered in bunny blood.

Like with a dog or cat, the more attention that goes in, the more they become same.

A ferret as we all know needs to learn, the hand brings the food & is not food, and my mates have various methods of getting this over.

Good luck

I dont like the way people assume that ferrets bite, they do if treated wrongly or feel threatened, as would any other animal....I have had lots of ferrets over the years and never been bitten, All the ferrets I have had where got young, so if there handled there is no problem

WHY, WHO IS ASSUMING THAT ALLL FERRETS BITE? READ THE POST, IT WAS ONE GUY ASKING WHY HIS FERRET WAS DOING IT. MAYBE YOU DONT GO TO THE SHOWS(EXCUSE ME IF YOU DO) WHERE YOU CAN SEE ALL THE FERRETS A FERRET PEOPLE PROMOTING THEM. I THINK PEOPLE WHO DONT WANT FERRETS ASSUME THEY BITE, BUT THE MAJORITY OF COUNTRY PEOPLE KNOW THEY DONT IF THEY ARE TREATED RIGHT...

So your ferrets dont play bite?:hmm: its about getting the ferret to understand whats acceptable , the way the origonal poster described the bite it sounds like over excitment, no one said anything about it not being treated properly :hmm:

My Ferret this morning was excited and started lunginng forward and drew blood on my arm.

I was just talking to a friend who works Ferrets on a reglar basis. He said that the Ferret was just playing.Iwonder are there any Ferrets that dont bite at all.I am not being a wuss in writing this but just interested in other peoples experiences with there Ferrets.

i have a couple which have never ever bitten, and never looked to bite. even so they work a dream and its good as i trust them 100% whilst fishing a rabbit out from underground, as i know they wont bite me. IMO all ferrets shouldnt bite if you put the time into it
