ive got permission on a local stables to do a bit of rabbiting and ive been taking my young bull x lurcher down and catching a few bunnies. but they have also got a problem with rats at the moment, theyve laid down rat poison but it doesnt seen to be working and the owner has asked me to use my lurcher to kill them. but i need a few tips as ive never been ratting before.

1. how do i locate a rats nest? what do they look like and where is the likley hood of them being located?

2. will my lurcher actually kill them?

3. is there anything i need to do to prepare the dog?

cheers all advice would be much appreciated adski

just look for the areas that are smoother and look well used these are referred to as runs around buildings were there is plenty of food is a good start look for were the soil is worn and shiny looking and were the grassy areas have seen a lot of activity, just be careful as the lads said if your dog picks up anything there its fooked also dont have any little dogs doing the rats either give it a wide birth best thing to do is lamp them with an air rifle of a night works a treat i use a air arms s410 carbine in 22 does the business no problem, good luck anyway mate let us know how you get on.
