kingfisher 0
right then, got a spinning rod and some spinners etc the other day and decided to take it out today and have a go for my 1st pike on a small stream that joins the trent which i know holds some small jacks , but guess what? thats right, i got naff all! i mean i wasnt expecting a pike a chuck but 1 would of been nice. and to make things worse i lost 2 spinners in bloody snags so come on lads and lasses whats the trick to lure fishing? and does it matter if the waters got a bit of colour to it? mackem 26,858
First time I ever tried spinning/plugging for pike I spent £60 on lures, certain that one of these creations would catch a fish, the water was gin-clear,I was looking at pike on station beside reed-beds and working the lures past their noses,no interest whatsoever, went upstream near the weir, silted coloured water, first cast and a 2lb jack struck,is there any hard-and-fast rules? kingfisher 0
do you think that plugs and lures are better than spinners? Quote Link to post

thepriest 0
If the water has got a bit of colour to it. Use rattlers and vibrating lures. Pike will use their other sences if theres a lot of colour. Quote Link to post

runforyourlife 361
have you tried the rubber shads we use perchy looking ones and had a good summer using them ive always found river pike harder to catch than still water pike !!!!!!! not... lol...... Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
You find river pike harder than still water!!! Jesus, i have never ever heard as much bollocks spoken in all my life! sorry folk but come on.... You can almost well 99% fish every bit of a river, all the snags, every feature, every bank!!! you can present your bait in all most perfectly... Still waters are vast areas of underwater features, some way to far off to get at, unless on a boat, and then your pissing in the wind alot of the time! I'll tell you what pal, you go fish conniston, windermere, thelmere, bassenthwaite, derwent water just a few of the ultra hard lakedistrict waters!! Move on up to scotland where people say the pike are plentyful, you go sit it out on lomond in winter blizards, loch awe, where i have trolled and not seen a fish on the finder for over 2 miles!!!!!! yeah 2 miles, and there were people bivvyed up on the bank! For feck sake, find a good looking peg for silver fish on a river and you usually find a hot spot for pike. Sorry valleylad, but you are talking absolute nonsense..... One of my favourite days out, is on my boat on the yorkshire ouze. start the elecy engine, cast 2 lures out behind the boat and set off, catchy upto 30 pike aday, sometimes n othing big but sometimes, some real clonkers, now if thats hard fishing, god knows.....its very enjoyable, but very easy, and brings a welcome break from those big hard still waters!! The top pic is the ouze, the bottom pic, is lomond.. look behind me... then you decide which would be the hardest to fish! Quote Link to post
kingfisher 0
i was out again today and caught naff all again, the stream i was on was a few feet up and the colour of weak tea so i knew it was a long shot but it were worth a go plus it got me out the house for a hour or so. i think ill get back there on the weekend and fish for some silvers (something i need to do more often )then if pike comes along or at the end of the session ill have a crack at it Quote Link to post

I usually take 3 full charged batterys along with me. On a winters day, they are usually fine, depending on the weather(wind etc). On a summers days, i have been known to also whip the car battery off!! to get another hour or so,lol. Then had to get the car jump started!! It is pretty cool, and can be very chilled, but you still have to read the finder and steer the boat over features, as well as watching your own lure, you know for depth changes....
