dangergirl 13
She is probably going through a 'funny phase', go back to basics with her. Put her back on an extendable lead, when you call her give her a slight pull back on the lead. Take her out on her own off the lead, if she does not come back when called, call her again and then run away from her, she will soon come to you. Dont use the electric collar though. sorel-2007 0
Good advice being given hear so I'd recommend you use it. As for the electric collar I would not use this divice for something like this. Maybe to stop stock chasing as a very last resort but not for recall training. He must always want to return to you so encoragement rather that punishment for now if I were you. Best of luck. Quote Link to post

sorel-2007 0
I'm not a big fan either. That said they do work and work well. But they have to be used as a last resort and only with a lot of thought before hand as to how you are going to use it and when to use it. I had a dog that would not stop chasing sheep. Tried all usual metods and the old fashioned methods. Put him in with a ram, didn't work. Put him in with ewe and lamb, didn't work. Put him in with the bigest Texel ram that I could find, didn't work. Trust me that ram gave him some pounding, but the little shit was chasing sheep next time the opertunity was put in fromt of him. As a last resort I purchased an eletric shock collar. Only used it twice on him. One zap the next time he went to chase and another twenty seconds later and that was it. Cured for life. They do have there place but only as a last resort. And before I get anybody slagging me for the dog chasing sheep in the first place it was a dog that was given me with this problem, not one I created though lack of time or training. And I was trying to break him to MY sheep, so no farmer was at risk of loosing any stock. Quote Link to post

They can do the business, but have heard they can make a dog aggresive. It worked for me and the dog is fine. Quote Link to post

jakeuk1 0
An electric collar would ruin a sensitive saluki especially at her age. Ive seen my friend try this technique (against my wishes ) with an adult salukix dog, the dog screamed in pain and ran off, he was found (the next day) and the dog was never the same, when my mate tried to put a collar/lead on him he just rolled over and pissed himself. As already mentioned in other posts the electric collar only works well if a negative reaction is needed to deter the dog from something. e.g livestock, snakes, other dogs The pup is still young, even the best dogs go through a rocky patch! try and start calling her when theres no distractions, treat the pup and offer lots of praise also use the same call when feeding the pup. Stick at it mate we have all been there Edited November 7, 2008 by jakeuk1 Quote Link to post

The collar must only be used whilst the dog is doing some thing that cannot be associated to you. Thus it not being some thing YOU did. He must only associate you with good experiances. After all if you want him to respond well to recall then he must find you more fun to be with than whatever it is that's distracting him. Best of luck. Quote Link to post
