whin 463
i like al these stories of dogs catching game thta are not brd for it , its sureal, rocky some cross you must a had , just get adog thtas bred for the job and dont piss about , some staffies ive saw were poor dogs to cacth afully grown bunny , the one son here must a had grown another 4 or5 inches onleg and got a bit turbo drive ,all dogs will nack the odd one but if that rabbit knows the ground then he isnt that slow , saw some outpace mongrly looking lurchers on short grass so staffy wouldnt do well , Quote Link to post
doga 50
do any of use think a long leged staff would have any chance at lamping and catch rabbits ?if your dog is fit not a staff even if if fit, been round staffs +pits back to 60s, you might get the odd daft rabbit with a staff, but some pits are very racey and not to heavy+agile, more chance with one of them ray what breed of staff and pit did you see back in the sixtees?,i can honestly say the dog at lees house the father to my lurcher a pure staff has caught rabbit in the lamp and not just one,ask the breeder to him you know who he is.the type of staff were on is more akin to a pit not the short stiff show type but a staff non the less of wich i would class as close to the best uk. BrianSteven72 369
i would dought it very much staffies far to slow for lamping rabbits You'd be surprised mate yes i would be surprised , they maybe get the odd rabbit once in a while but a full blood staffie catching rabbits consistently on the lamp i would have to see that to believe it atb Quote Link to post
hullhunter 219
when i had my patterdale my mate asked if i fancyed a shine but all my lurchers were in sick bay so i took the pat just to get out of the house (our lass had big bro on) well my mate was gutted my pat got more rabbits than his lurcher Quote Link to post

Stabs 3
Not exactly a stafford, but we used to have good fun raking around banks of brambles and the hills and valleys of Kent chasing bunnies and foxes. Sometimes the bunnies were almost fit for the table Sometimes they weren't Quote Link to post
robwelsh 354
im not saying staffies (irish, old tyme or pits cant) but american bulldog just seems to be taking the piss Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
It depends on the staff IMHO. I've got two, both pedigrees - one was incredibly fast in her prime and would probably have gotten plenty of rabbits had I only tried her (doh!) she is the longer legged, more aristocratic type staff. The other is nowhere near as fast- too muscular and thick set to be quick. Quote Link to post
brunty29cdo 5
my staff has had a couple of young bunnies and squirels but hed scare everything away at night as he sounds like a steam train coming!.no lack of trying tho Quote Link to post
