You're living beyond your means and liking it, ignoring reality. You do have some savings. Which is the smart play? 1. Borrow a silly amount of money and continue spending, hoping without much basis that you regain employment/there's a sudden surge in business and your hours go back up. 2. You completely remove excess "lifestyle" spending and concentrate on the basics, the important stuff, leaving you in a better and more realistic position for the future. I just plain don't like having things which aren't mine and which I can be reprimanded for. I would cut back to about as much as I can survive on and either wait with some reliable information that business will pick up, or find something else, even in the darkest times, there is always work about for the right person. Just my way of course, and I'm sure everyone will be different, but borrowing doesn't sit well with me. I am lucky enough to be in a secure job, but still wary about money that isn't mine. Or you save till you can afford it. The only money i have ever borrow is for the mortage. Over the years i have had many people banks, friends and telesales people trying to convince me that i cant live without a little bit of plastic. Would he listen !!! silly boy! You know what mate, he will probably go to the Citizens Advice, and end up declaring himself bankrupt, and all those debts will be wiped clear. jembo 0 Posted November 4, 2008 Report Share Posted November 4, 2008 I was made redundant in June of this year, so went into panic mode for a weekend, then got my arse in gear and now have my own buisness. I made quite a bit of money in the first few months, but am now struggling to find solid work. I dont have any credit cards or loans or overdraughts (anymore been stung before), so now I only spend what I have, if I cannot afford it then I go without. All i want in life is a roof over my head, my daughter to be fed and watered. Whatever i have left over i save incase i have a bad week. woz 260 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Share Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) 6 years ago i owned a 500k house out right,i had an escort cossie track car...911 turbo...new discovery..3 year old range rover..hybrid landrover id built..ducati.748..916...999...900 ss...trumph daytona..couple dirt bikes and a quad.jet ski's.i would wake up in the morning open my curtains and look out over a boating lake..on the face of things life was brilliant..i was blessed,everything i touched turned to gold..you know the only thing i couldnt buy or deal for????...happiness....i had a bad accident had no insurance's and a bad women..i ended up in a old living wagon in the bottom of my yard,no electric,running water and a pair of fecked hands...i now have a modest bungalow a 1996 discovery and a new mrs that loves me to bits and i her......i can hand on heart say im truly happy and content.....i am lucky..most people only find out the meaning of life when the are on there death beds drawing there last breaths.............take what i have written as fact or fiction the choice is yours....life isnt what youve got its whats in your head........ scottishlass 57 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Share Posted November 5, 2008 (edited) Well the hubby and i are just going through things and sorting out he has just lost his job and gets paid off at the start of next year he was a shepherd house comes with the job (not to bad they are going to let us rent for a while. Sky t.v is going as we now have a t.v with freeview.We also have 6 collies 4 which are working and used for my hubbys job so the 2 that are non working will have to rehomed.Next thing is the amount of cars we have a decent one and a cheap run around ,do we get rid of one or change the cheap on to a van for my hubby so he can go self employed and do work around the farms.its all up in the air but i am sure there will be light at the end of the dark tunnel Edited November 5, 2008 by scottishlass Quote Link to post Share on other sites
