Guest MOLLY Posted March 20, 2006 Report Share Posted March 20, 2006 Finally in the cottage, it is work in progress so please forgive the patches of paint on the walls (testing colours). The before pictures really dont show the extent of the dirt, damp and damage. The previous tenent had mixed cement in the bath, lounge floor, kitchen floor and it was sprayed up nearly every wall and door. The windows were frozen 'inside' even with the fires on it was so damp but after living here, having the fires on and the odd oil filled radiator it is now completely dry and warm. Ive got no neighbours other than the farmer, several barns full of cattle and the ewes will be in the sheds later today in preperation for the lambs being born. The farmer allows me to walk the dogs in any of his fields without sheep (he rotates them) ive seen loads of wildlife, hares boxing for the 1st time ever. Red squirrels and tawny owls in the trees opposite my lounge, and various birds on the feeders i put in the trees. it is a massive shooting estate so partrige and pheasant everywhere. Roe peacefully grazing, and i even had a frog in the bath for a week till the big freeze passed. I never see the dogs (especially the terriers) they are always in the garden/yard, the garden now resembles a bomb site with all the holes dug. Its very secure so i have no worries about leaving them out...heaven for us all. The electrics are original and need replacing, although im cleaning and keeping the old bakerlite light switches, and there are only 6 plug sockets in the whole house so ive got extensions everywhere. But................ I LOVE IT. Prepare yourself for loads of piccies! BEFORE...1st kitchen (there are 2 small ones) AFTER.... BEFORE.....2nd kitchen. DURING... AFTER... BEFORE...Bathroom.. AFTER....(Still needs tiling) BEFORE...Bedroom... AFTER... Spare room, no after shots as at the present time it is a giant toolbox till everything else is completed, plus the computer room. BEFORE...lounge.. AFTER... BEFORE...lounge fire.. AFTER...tiled and painted.. Front door with its medieval lock and key... The yard, gardens and views from the cottage... Started planting a few spring flowers, the main large front garden will probably need poisoning this year as the nettles etc are really bad. The views walking around the farm.. And last but not least the mob loving every minute of it... The hailstones were coming down the chimney and these 2 were convinced it was a rat up the chimney.. Our temporary guest... Steve has done most of the building type work for me himself, with me supervising and the odd bit of fetching and carrying, so a huge thank you to him or i would never have been able to take the cottage on.
