Guest baldie
Bend the farmers ear, moll, i,ll bet he knows someone who does logs, that,ll eak out your coal nicely, theres usually someone doing it.My mate does a trailer load for around 75 quid i think, down here. Its a nice little sideline to their gardening buisness, as they have a big yard , log splitter, etc.You want one of them little electric greenhouse heaters for the damp bedroom, they run on bugger all, and keep everything aired, they are also good for kennels. Aled 506
I think Baldies got a good point. As a student we used to collect wood from the river bank which got washed down with the floods, used to keep us warm at any rate and cost us nothing but loading it in the car and cutting it. Cheers Aled

Guest MOLLY
moll being welsh i know all about coal fires ... last thing at night bank your fire up with all the small coal and dust and leave it burn on slow .... first thing in the morning move your slider to open up the fire and when you see flames start to flicker put on the normal lumps ........ Ive also had coal fires untill a few years ago, ive tried everything, although not the dust, this coal doesnt seem to produce much. I think there is something wrong with the fire it draws too easily, the fireplace should be the whole size of the breast up to the black posts, the tenent before me decided to pinch the range and build a smaller fire baldie Today, 11:04 AM Bend the farmers ear, moll, i,ll bet he knows someone who does logs, that,ll eak out your coal nicely, theres usually someone doing it.My mate does a trailer load for around 75 quid i think, down here. Its a nice little sideline to their gardening buisness, as they have a big yard , log splitter, etc.You want one of them little electric greenhouse heaters for the damp bedroom, they run on bugger all, and keep everything aired, they are also good for kennels. Ill hopefully have all 3 fires on this winter, see if that makes a difference....Steve brings old scaffoldong boards for me to burn, they make good kindling too....anything and everything gets burned MOLL. Can you imagine the chat between the farmer and his wife after spying Millet on the roof taking pictures of the garden.. Well done Hippy.. Oneredtrim :11: :11: .. that's the only safe retreat for me at time's when Molly attack's me with the whip.. .. Seriously though, id forgotton how bad it really was till i looked at these pic's again.. ive done all the building type stuff but Molly has done everything else she's like a robot when she's on a mission.. .. Millet MOLL. Any more of those places going Moll? .............looks.......like heaven!Tell him to get his finger out and plant up that other flower bed now :11: ...........or is that why he was on the roof JOEB You didnt notice the shape of that bed then....coffin :11: Not that im saying i would know what happened if he suddenly disapeared from the forum  he knows better than to touch my garden unless he is being very closely supervised Those beds are left for the veg etc for next year, dug in some compost and given them a rest. Some of the planted beds have perenials in and the other annuals so they can also be rotated for veg....i usually grow veg and flowers mixed anyway. He was on the roof cos the guy is a bleedin monkey, only happy when he's climbing something Thanks everyone  MOLL.

Simoman 110
Fantastic Molly/Millet, the cottage is a credit to the hard work you have obviously put in, i'm very jealous.....apart from cleaning out a coal fire in a morning, I remember those in our old cottage
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Moll!!! I'd deliberatly ignored this thread for so long now, simply because I knew it'd be full of piccies and they'd take for ever of my valuable (Expensive!) time to look at. But tonight I'm on a " Fukk 'Em All! " rampage as Eircom are liable to cut me off soon anyway ~ ~ so, what the hell? and Go For It time! What can I say? Stunned! Absolutely f***in stunned! How in hell do ye find a place like that to rent?! B*stards'd be ripping eachothers skins off to get in there! If it were sold it'd fetch outrageous ammounts! Jesus! That Really Is a dream come true! Had to laugh; As ye may know, I have a cottage of my own now. I don't ever show shots of it for security reasons. But ~ and here's the craic! ~ if I did, ye'd either think I had the 'Before' and 'After' ones arse about face or else would think / (see!) I haven't done f*** all! Your place Really shows what a womans touch, coupled with a man who can use tools ~ and, doubtless, a bit of folding to get the materials in ~ can do Un F***ing Believable about sums it up for me! Anyway, being a man ..... Yeppers. One glance at the flames shooting up that chimney told me there was something wrong there. Don't know what - there's So Much science to a 'simple' open fire! - but it simply shouldn't suck up like that. Ask around. See what others think. And yeppers; Wood's the way! Ash is The Best wood ye can get ye hands on. Grows like a weed and burns like hell! Price is right; 75 a load. We pay that here (Euro's) for wood or turf (peat). Coal seems expensive to you? Maybe it's that sky warmer eating it??? Listen; That great mud swamp out there? Get it tarmacked!!! Honestly. I had the same, right outside my door, when I got here. It's f***ing useless! Never goes away. Dogs drag it in. I've had it 'macked and now it's bliss! Water f***s off and the Dogs trundle around on it good as gold. Anyway, I don't know where ye lived before, but that'll be better! PS: LOVE the out buildings and the original, cast iron gutterings! Great stuff! Ye've Made It now! Enjoy! Guest MOLLY
You are 100% right about the mud and the dogs, ive constantly got dog towels in the washer. That huge mud swamp would probably take a whole years wages to sort Ditchy, it is huge. There are drains under there and allsorts. The farm and all of the surrounding farms and land all belongs to some landowner you see, not the farmer. I am only here for aslong as the farmer is, so this is now the end of my spending. Ive spent enough to make me comfortable, anymore would only be lining the landowners pockets as he will never sell any of his properties But whether i am here for 1yr or 20 it is all worth it and i will/am enjoying......no im LOVING it . Who would i look up in the phone book to check the fire? Had to laugh; As ye may know, I have a cottage of my own now. I don't ever show shots of it for security reasons. But ~ and here's the craic! ~ if I did, ye'd either think I had the 'Before' and 'After' ones arse about face or else would think / (see!) I haven't done f*** all! MOLL. Guest Frank
I love it Molly. A very well done to you and the gang who got it together. Can i come and live with you? :11: :11: May you have many years of happyness to come. Frank.
Guest G.Mac
A credit to you all for getting the place like that. Pity you couldnt buy the place for yourself. We got stone chips from the local quarry here for the mud problem at the front. 6 Euro + vat per tonne and good old elbow grease with a wheelbarrow and after the summer we've had its rock hard now. All the best you can now thoroughly enjoy the place.
