iv an ortodox collar an pulse box works fine for me iv dug with it about 15 times so far no probs yet

when you are above the dog at wat ever depth the word (MARK) comes up on the screen.

i was out the day an marked the dog at ten foot witch was 5.0 on the box an it wasn jumping to dif readings

i think if its doing tat the dog is still traveling the hole.

an its the same for the peips box if the readings ar all over the place the dog is moveing.

great set up i think an the collar strong stuff dos is top notch

what is that i cant make out what it is lol

i used this set for the first time this weekend...... BRILLIENT is not the word for it!!! firstly the transmitter is half the size of the b+f which is a majour factor for me as i mainly dig tight earths fox run into and i think the b+f is a bit too big.... the ortovox is a bit more accurate aswell.... my old bitch rarly barks so sounding her is difficult but the box brought us bang on top of her.... as an experiment me and my buddy who has a b+f tested the two sets for accurracy ... the ortovox changed the reading as soon as i moved the transmitter but the b+f still gave out the same reading even tho i had moved the transmitter about half a foot either way!!!!! over all i give the ortovox a big thumbs up :clapper:

Has any one got the details to contact them as there email advertised in earth dog aint working. im interested to know if it will fit on a big Hob ferret. And im fed up with Deben- there gear is crap and customer care non excistent. :wallbash:

some intreseting points raised here, firstly Dog Fox mentions calibration, this is important in matching equipment, the best thing to do is buy the equipment together as it will be matched to collar and receiver, even though collars and boxes can be used with either, adjustments will then have to be made or recalibrated to give accurate readings.

Secondly, response times,it appears the Ortovox is slightly faster at refreshing readings, this is definite plus.

Third, range,or maximum working distance, the ortovox seems adequate enough for most situations,a bonus is the marking facility which can allow more than one collar to be located.

Fourth,a lot of ferreting guys would like this set up,but i personally think the collars are too heavy and large for ferrets to wear, remember this type of equipment has been designed and intended to save human lives,so a dog can get away

with wearing the collars, ferrets definiteley not(Deben, take note),

lastly, price,it looks like the Ortovox is a clear winner, being approx half price of a B+F setup,it is more than capable of competing with them, also i hear Bryan offers a five year warranty, you really can't go wrong, this is just my opinion,

but it all looks like a good setup,

Higgins.

Just in reply to Higgins(and thanks for the bump),

the calibration? i don't think it's really an issue once you get used to your kit.

I use the barryvox pulse and Ortovox collar, it reads 0.7 per foot, once i can remember my 7 times tables i know what depth i'm looking at.

The Ortovox sends out it's signal more frequently than the B+F which is fine for quick readings, but if the dog is moving it does gives a rapidly changing signal which can be nevre wracking, until the dog settles.

The marking facility, would only be useful if you have 2 dogs to ground!!! or can't turn a collar off, It is a feature on the Pieps and Barryvox boxes, both of which are the highest rated boxes on the market(not the Ortovox box)

The 5 year warranty is from Ortovox and covers the box and collar, which i think is good.

Overall i think the best features of the Ortovox kit, is price, size and simplicity of the transmitter/collar.

Also it's good to have some variety in the market

That's two pieces of good info there....

I recently got up with the Orto/Barryvox combo. It has worked well for me so far (in the states). I have witnessed the quick fluctuations while the dog is moving and sorting things out. Once the terrier is stable so is the mark. I very much like the Barryvox "mark" function so that I do not have to turn the collar off. Usually I only have one terrier out but on occassion I'll have a second staked out at the dig. It's much quicker to mark that dog before starting to locate the other than it is to unfasten and turn off the collar/transmitter. The digs I have had I've popped in right over the dogs skull. As far as calibration error I would agree with Bryan. You get used to it. As someone else said to me, you are gonna be digging the hole whether it's 1.7 or 5.7. It's much more critical to be over the dog precisely.

Only a handful of digs under my belt with it so far but I am liking it much more than the LRT.

I've used the patroller box with a B&F collar,spot

on for finding, yes while the dog is travelling the

readings jump quite quick, but when the dog settles

it is very precise. Still getting used to the set up

and it does read slightly over depth.
