RIOHH 30
I have noticed on a couple of furums that there are more and more people getting into falconry, which is great the only problem i have noticed is the lack of people willing to say come and have a day with me. The idea of theis thread is for people to put names up who would be willing to take the risk and offer their services to begginers. Im not saying you should take them on your best land because we all know there is along way to go befor you start hunting, but offer a couple of hours a week to go through the ropes with peple and help them along. you nevere know you might find a new hunting partner. I will start off. I am willing to offer my services to anyone who is interested in beggining falconry. PM me if it somthiing you are interested in. IHOPE IM NOT GOING TO BE THE ONLY ONE I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND HELP FROM WHEN I STARTED. Im in the east midlands. Edited November 3, 2008 by RIOHH Quote Link to post
Guest Hawker
Count me in, The more falconers that help beginners, the less chance there is of them going it alone. I'm in East Anglia Quote Link to post

IHOPE IM NOT GOING TO BE THE ONLY ONE I KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO FIND HELP FROM WHEN I STARTED. Just done it mate and do it every year with a few meets! Not as if this guy needed any help but it was good as he has already mastered his bird, either way it was good to get out with his bird and have some sport for a good few days.... When I started there wasn't any falconers in the Norfolk area so I got stuck into books when I was a kid climbed a few trees and did it myself starting with Kestrals, Spars and a Redtail, I finally latched onto some good old time Falconers at the very beggining of the 90's but certainly had done my homework before then... these days there are plenty of Falconry schools around! plenty of Hawk walks! plenty of Books and plenty of birds! getting out with a Falconer would be handy but some seriouse studying reading books from cover to cover over and over again learning about different species, health matters, wing loadings, Imping, Ect.. wouldn't go a miss either........ some good advice to gleam from is worth its weight in gold, but tagging along with someone who has learned incorrectly in the first place will do more damage than good..... RIOHH 30
I know what your saying jasper there are a few people out there who didnt exactly go about what they do the correct way there for they have ended up with a (to put it bluntly) shit bird and they have no one else but themselves to blame. We can only hope that they have realised this and got the help they need. All i am trying to do with this post is give people the oppertunity to have somone local to talk to if needed. They dont have to take them out or anything like that but i know how i felt until i met my mentor i would have loved to have somone local who could have nipped round if despretly needed. jasper65 6
I know what you're saying mate . It would be handy if some Falconers on the forum did a peice on Basic trainning, Lamping with Harris's, Rook Hawking or anything that would be of benefit to any newcomers or skilled falconers alike, Anything like this would be very helpfull and will get Pinned at the top of the boards for future reference Jasper Quote Link to post

NIGHTSHADOW 3
I don't wish to start an argument here but I'm old school. I'm a great believer of ,his way, ,my way, there way. Who's right ?I've been flying hawks on and off for 25 years. From a kestral to redtails and todate harris hawks. Never used a telmerty, still don't. Never lost a hawk. No not luck but skill. I don't use digetal scales don't use bullet jessies, I make all my own leather work, scales. I found it hard to read and write when I was young. I'm 50 +, so there was no dvd around to watch. If it had not been for mentor's, one of mine I'm proud to say was Jemmia Perry Jones, who had time for me then, I would never have learnt the art of falconry. I thank them all. So come on make time for the young ones. Pass on your skills to them so they too can enjoy the love of flying birds of prey. Here endeth today's sermon. n/s Quote Link to post

If there is enough of us how about the mods deleting all the talk and pinning the names of those who are willing to help at the top. Quote Link to post
trappa 518
Ive helped plenty and am willing to help more. Im available to phone, will go to others and once i know them , they are ok to come to mine. Only doubts i have on this thread is will there be people offering services who dont know enough but want to "big up" their reputation. I know a few starters who fly a harris for a season and think they are the new frank beebe. Quote Link to post
