kristian 9
Firstly cheers to Justin off here and my bro (timjim) for taking me out ferreting today. It's the first time i've ever been out with the ferrets, I usually only shoot though i have been out with the dogs a few times. Anyway, got to the permission around 9:30 this morning we had 2 ferrets (1 hob 1 jill) my mates (Justins) jrt and also my bro's lurcher pup with us. My bro's lurcher hasn't been around ferrets before so we were abit nervous about how she'd react with them. We walked up through the first field and came across the first set of holes so netted them up and put the hob down but nothing! so moved on to the next and nothing again, then my mates jrt runs over and starts marking a well used run so we cleared the brambles away to the holes That we could see and netted them up then put the jill down waited a couple of secs and bingo straight into the net. I was well happy this is the first time i've seen it done in real life and was impressed. Next thing pip (jrt) is going mad digging on the same hole so we put the hob down there and after a couple of mins could see him trying to drag the rabbit out of the warren but we couldn't quite reach it by now pip (jrt) was halfway down the hole trying to get at it. In the end we pulled the dog out and the ferret came back up but no rabbit He got away to battle another day. Heres a pic of the quarry and my mates jrt diging to get at another. Wicked day out can't wait for the next one!!!! Quote Link to post

timjim 43
yes had a good day today, plenty more to come, not a great deal of rabbits today but numbers dont bother me, more about watching the dogs and ferrets working for me, and a bit of meat for a curry or a stew is a bonus, and the lurcher pup had her first proper course on a rabbit today missed it on the first strike and bowled over but recovered well and nailed it on the second Quote Link to post

ade33uk 86
were you (timjim) using the ferrets you had off me or are they different ones . nothing like a newbie ferreter the excitment and anticipation before the ferret goes in , and then the action when it all kicks off , no other field sport like it in my opinion . Hi Ade hows it going, yes they are mate, we only got the one jill and the big hob now, the one jill was put with a vasectamised hob for a couple of days when she was in season but when she came back she couldnt be handled and was biting me all the time and if i let her out with the lurcher she was hanging off her leg, i gave her a couple of weeks to settle down and handling her with gloves but in the end had to get rid, the other jill the smallest one is coming on well and the big hob is something else, if they dont bolt he will drag the fuckers out! not seen that before but have seen him do it a few times now all the best Tim ps. i think i may be in touch for some ferrets for my brother soon lol!
