smudge1901 1
Have had a great deal of sucess with my Logan S16 with a Whitetail Classic 1.5-4 x20 scope. (focuses at less than a metre.) Fantastic for fast shooting, but have to say it's not as exciting as going after them with the dogs. You cant get to the rats on the rafters with a dog though....So a combination at different times would be best IMO. Quote Link to post

Molie1337 35
Me and a few mates went out today with our new smoker, a chainsaw engine run rich, but it didnt seem to bolt them what do you guys do to get best results? Put extra 2-stroke oil in the mix, maybe a bit of diesel aswell, then she'll smoke like f**k, works for us! we use a combination of terriers and airguns, and the odd overkilled 12b rat! in the grain bins and roof spaces we use the airguns, outside and downstairs we use the dogs. both have they're place! went out last night, shot 4 rats up top in the bins, and the dog had 2 and a mouse downstairs! pointer 543
some rats live in places where they cannot be caught with dogs so im happy to shoot them. id rather take them with a dog but i quite enjoy air-rifle shooting.if im out excercising the dogs around a farm at night i sometimes take the gun along to shoot any that are sat on beams or poking their heads out of holes.they usually drop for the dog underneath.i believe that the dog dosent know its dead as it runs in so still gets to enjoy the trip out. its one thing to go out with terriers where old bales or rubbish is being lifted or digging them out around release pens etc but its a bit harder to catch rats running around calf/pig pens and suchlike.off-course youll always get rats that are too far from home or just sit in the light too long but ive yet to own a dog that can kill rats running across a beam between the walls where it lives. ill be out tonight with a terrier and might get a couple of rats but i know that if i sat waiting with some smelly liquidized cat food around the pens id shoot more.............not as much fun as watching a terrier or lurcher running around after the long tails though Quote Link to post
