Hi, i have no experience of the optical quality of that scope, but my opinion is that the magnification is too high for hunting.

Especially if you plan to use it for rabbits on the lamp.

Maybe scale down a little with your top end magnification.

Get a scope with a bigger objective front lens. You will then have a bigger exit pupil view. I use the nighteater 8-32x60 on my CZ 22lr it get in plenty of light.

It's down to individual choice but I would not even consider anything that began with an 8 on an HMR.

 

Start with a 3, 4 or 6 maximum!

 

Nothing wrong with a 42 objective as long as the glass is good ..but I would suggest 3-12, or 4-16, someting like this, just my opinion.

I'd agree 8x is too high for a lowest magnification on a variable hunting scope. Fine for a fixed scope though, which I admit is a bit strange
