Rabbithunter 456
engine on my car (1.9TD) takes some starting when cold. My fiyrst guess is glow plugs. not doing there job properly. THe engine doesnt really seem choked of fuel, and isnt struggling when "turning over" but just takes a good few goes to fire up. Once she is warm, she is fine. Its parked up about 8PM most nights and not started again until 5:30PM the next day so its sat for nearly a full day. I have fired some redex through the system, topped up with anti-freeze, and just changed the fuel filter.... To me it seems like the glow plugs arent operating.... could i be right
Guest little lurcher
try leaving the glow plugs on for a bit extra, also have you used any bio fuel in the engine? this can solidify
Rabbithunter 456
i let illuminate glow plugs three times, then try to fire up, and its not playing the game. No bio-fuel since i have had it, nor any funny coloured diesel. I just changed the filter today, so i will see what it's like tommore
badoosh 1
check the wire that comes from the tops of the glow plugs (red on a mondeo) (i think to the battery, what give them power to warm the glow plugs....hope that makes sense) i had one that was corroded in a place,so took longer to warm the glow plugs but being a diesel once it was warm it started fine, just staring from cold try this first before you put new glow plugs in first hope it helps
Rabbithunter 456
yeah, i was going to test them. Was told to disconnect the common leads, and link the battery to the top of the glow plug...... if it sparks, its fine, apparantly
wabbit 0
id, go with glow plugs but would also keep an eye on the battery in cold weather thats usually the first thing to go.
