Brickin' it

Recommended Posts

Went out last night around some of my old haunts with a couple of fellas I've met on this site. Bit of driving, bit of walking. Started off perfect conditions, then went still, then came in snowy. Several hours, nearly got the truck stuck and several rabs.

Merle dog got about 16 or so, white dog about 8 or so and our hosts dogs (not pictured) got the remainder.

Thought we'd got 30 before we'd finished but either someone can't count or the bag man lost one under a wire or I lost one out of the footwell whilst gate opening!

No action shots as the driver couldn't keep the truck moving on the level but here's the end result.

Thanks chaps for a good night (nearly all the fecker!) and good crack. Cheers, D.

When you say "Bricking-it" are you referring to the west-country lamping style of driving in fields with the dog running alongside the vehicle :hmm:

Woooaaaoooh there!!!!!! that isn't westcountry lamping style....................................that's something that lazy northerner wannabe countryman who have moved down here do. I can assure you I was brought up in the westcountry and I learned all about gates, hedges, stiles and fieldcraft long before I learned how to drive, trucks and Lurchers don't go together in my book...................................... :D

Funny how a light hearted lamping report can be misinterpreted! Nobody mentioned MarkBrick (to whom I presume your referring), I just followed the style of very recent previous posts on here whereby lamping with dogs running by the vehicle was used and dubbed "Bricking" Light hearted see!

Do you really think MB invented it?

Come on, wind your neck in. No offence taken or meant. Cheers, D.

Cheers Dave and Mark for good company on a nights lamping. weather conditions and ground were nigh on perfect and i think the bag reflects this too.

My Flyn and D's Celp done the bulk of the runing slip for slip from foot.....however - as ever to cover the ground and keep some all the farmers happy, we drove some fields to "show face" and take some extra bunnies....maybe half a dozen were taken this way? Regardless a kill is a kill when rabbits are a problem.

Also had the pleasure of seeing the young Wheaton cross get a few runs. VERY steady dog considering its age....if all goes to plan, it should make an ideal tool ;)

Personally i was chuffed to bits with Flyn, he ran well throughout and didnt miss too many. he took his first seven rabbits without a miss...managed to take a leaping rabbit mid flight, and generally got stuck into what ever task was given to him :).....Long slips being the order of the night and a few miles by the truck, i thought I'd be carrying him home....but not this night....and as the night went on, he was literally like a hoover behind the bunnys getting closer and close on each turn until they were snatched up ;)

D's Dog ran well for a youngster. I dont think the long slips were what D would have taken through choice, but his dog took the challenge and once the rabbits were turned off the hedge line, Celp would normally pick the bunny up or drag it from cover.....persistance pays off ;)

Anyhow, cheers to all invloved...see you soon fingers crossed....hopefully for a reapeat performance from flyn....as i am still chuffed to bits with the way he ran.

Heres the pics i took...very similar but then not much you can do with a pile of rabbits....

Funny how some light hearted banter can be misinterpreted! Neither myself or Mackem mentioned Markbrick (to whom you were obviously referring to by the title of this thread) of course MB didn't invent it we'd all know about it if he did wouldn't we? :clapper::clapper:

Come on, wind your own neck in Dicktoes no offence meant or taken Cheers
