update from one out of my litter

Recommended Posts

My Lab would take fox if the opportunity presented its self, personally I think they would make good find and kill dogs, not many bullX's have the nose or drive to track quarry like labs do.

As for Dalmations they were originally boarhounds from India, so maybe they wouldn't as bad as some would believe. :secret:

lab x dogs are used for pig hunting aswell, they are hard as feck when it comes to confrontation of quarry. the following is a quote from an experienced pig hunter

"pitt lab mix is the best breed i've ever seen work a boar. they are smart agile and can run for years. i've seen them with there guts hagging out and still had the hog caught!"

they use the bull terrier for agression, gundog for nose and and size and greyhound for speed and stamina.

im not sure about that. its pointer that they use not lab and the best hog workers are the bull arabs which are many crosses but not labs. they use greyhound along with mastiff, great dane, wolf hounds, stags hounds, pits, pointers, blood hounds, bullterriers even dobermans but not labs. maybe the labs of many decades ago might be what you say they are but not know adays. and asfar as i can see labs were used for pulling fishing nets from the sea but not killing game. dogs of yester year are very very different than they are today in physical apperence and ability and temperment. i made the mistake of getting a bullmastiff cross greyhound. i worked out in australia and saw these crosses hunting hog and throught that they were amazing and that they might have there uses here in the uk. but i was very very wrong. they were gud on large game in oz but theres just no quarry in the uk that is that big and slow enough to justify using such a large and powerfull dog on. i bread my own and have learnt the hard way that you need dogs from lines of proven workers and it has taken the aussies decades of careful breeding and selection to get such a good working dog as the bull arab. i dont want to piss on your fire but i think that buy breeding these dogs you are making a mistake dont make the same mistake as me. i hope that you prove me wrong and good luck but i think that your flogging a dead horse with this one

i have recieved information on the breed in question here (lab bull grey) from a person who is experienced in pig hunting, he has told me that there are plenty of my breed of pups working and they have a good range and speed but are sometimes inconsistent because 3 breeds are in their makeup, he says 50/50 gives a more cinsistent performance. he has given me plenty to think about and i am looking forward to working my bitch in the future, hopefully i will prove you wrong.

the quote i used above was from a pig hunting forum where someone asked what the best breed was.

Adding Lab to a Lurchers breeding WILL add considerable durability which can only be a good thing, IMHO too many lurchers are overly saturated with greyhound and are nowhere near robust for serious work day in day out, most being finished through injury by 4-5 seasons.

Thank you for your polite reply........and I mean that seriously

As far as I am concerned, you a very welcome to voice whatever concerns you have about me publicly or to the Mods on this forum.

Now I will start right off by saying that I have very little time for dog dealers/breeders, call them what you will.....I knew you were such a person and I am happy that at last you have stated that publicly.

I dont need to add any more to this thread because that should tell anyone all they need to know.

As I said before, this is by no means personal.........we have never met so I have no personal grudge.

Please think of your pups when doing any future litters.........theres lots of better ways to earn a few quid.

i have no concerns about you wilf, i think you misunderstood, that was to night owl, he is a pain in my arse.

I am a 'breeder' i have 4 bitches, i breed them on every 4th or 5th season so not really on a huge scale and my partner alan works them. i have in 2 years bred 2 litters so its not really a massive operation i have going but it is successful so far. the money i earn from the pups goes into the kennels and towards the inevitable vets bills/food bills etc. i myself recieve no benefit other than the satisfaction of seeing my own bred pups working. I dont really understand your 'issue' with breeders though? if there were no breeders there would be no dogs? i feel a similar way to intensive breeders where season after season a bitch is bred, that really is no life for a working animal.

mate of mine used to use labs in his pigdogs in Nz when he lived there, predominately lab/ridgeback/greyhound. Not my cup of tea for what I chase but they have their place, the pups look well LnL

thank you hb, they all have very good working homes and are all in tip top shape, i particularaly like the dog in the last photos, kc, he has really come on since i last saw him and is now taller than me beddy whippet and he is only 5 months old!
