Got up this morning, ready to go out for a days ferreting. And checked my locator box and it goes fine upto 3 foot when it suddenly starts going mad like when you loose signal on a radio. This is the first time ive ever used it so im a bit pissed off. Ive tried changing the batteries but no difference? any ideas?

Problems can still occur outdoors if you are with 100 yards of an electricity pylon or close to a metal or electric fence.

If you know a bit about electronics then there are a couple of pot resistors you could try adjusting. This sometimes helps. Deben will call this adjustment calibration. Make a note of where they are set before you start.

i have an MK1 too and for the first 3 trips it was driving me crazy becuase it kep teiling me my ferret was bout a foot away, even when i could see her about 10 foot dwn the band from me.turns out it was picking up signal from my mobile phone,so try leave ur phone as far away as u can when using it.see if it makes a diffrence.

I bought two off ebay a few weeks ago (8 foot and 15 foot) and when i tried them they were going berserk. I took them out side and the 15 foot locator seemed fine but the 8 footer would only pick the collar up within 6 inches of it. As soon as i turned the dial past 2 foot it just went loud and did'nt sound right. I sold it to a lad a few days later who thought he knew what was wrong( said it was the batteries). Within 3 hours he was on the phone saying it was knackered, even with new batteries in so i give him his money back and am stuck with a faulty locator. If you get it sorted could you let me know what was wrong please as i paid decent money for it and it's just sitting in the draw, cheers, Liam....

Just got back from a nice day. But anyhow, I took the locator out anyway as 3 foot is better than 0 foot! but the minute I got it out on the field it was fine again. If you want to sell it, give me a pm for how much and I will pay for a repair
