Deker 3,478
Hi all. do you have to "shoot in" a new.22 barrel If we are talking .22LR and you only use sub sonic LEAD...then just clean the barrel from time to time and 200-400 shots later the barrel will probably be broken in. If you use high velocity copper coated ammo you will need a bit of copper solvent as well as general cleaning but you will break in the barrel much quicker. We all spend good money on our pride and joy so a little bit of care, especially in the very early days should pay dividends, even with a .22LR. There are those that never break in a barrel and say there is no need, I strongly dissagree, however, look at it this way...breaking in a barrel correctly can never do any harm so you can only ever benefit!! Country Life 0
When I spent my hard erned I ran my barrel in, by way of cleaning it every other shot with the rod, whilst i was setting zero. many would say there is no need, my point is "Why not", doesnt take any time at all and it will not do any harm after all its my NEW PRIDE AND TOY"!! Look after your tools and they will look after you John Quote Link to post
