FOXHUNTER 5,021
Me and Woodga had a look out on one of my patches last night to see what charlies were knocking about. I lamped and called down by a wood at the bottom of the ground but nothing showed , we then headed up the bank and continued to lamp some rough fields. I spied a couple of hares sitting in a grass field so we edged closer to the fence in order to take a shot , when I switched the lamp back on the hares had ran up the field but standing in there place was a fox , I rested on a barbed wire fence , shouted to stop the fox , crosshairs on chest , pulled the trigger only to see charlie running off into the distance........ Well I couldnt believe it , a sitter gone begging. I turned round and lamped the field behind me and just caught sight of another fox disappearing over the brow. I lay down and gave a squeak , the fox poked its head up above a banking and I quickly took the shot but never heard a strike. I asked Woodga " Did I get it ?" He replied " Not sure ". Well as we walked over to the fox I was very relieved that I never missed that one as well The bullet still only managed to graze its neck so I think a session on the paper is in order !!
