zap 4
whats your preference to watch hunting i like both but prefer the beagles ,8-9 years ago a couple farmers from wales moved up here and both had there own little packs made up of around 8 each on a sunday morning every second weekend they would hunt round the farms surronding there farms and i must say it was some of the best hunting i have watched ,great to see them get away on a fox although they never only hunted fox sometimes heading of after a hare ,they flushed a good number of foxes which the majority were shot them there were missed were never seen by the gun waiting although they never could answer why the rest of us heard shots lol at the time i never had my shotty so would just go along stand at places where if the beagles needed to be stopped due to a road or something ,when the ban came in both farmers got rid as they beleived they would need to register them and where a bit worried incase an accident happened which would land them in hot water ,so now i go out and watch my local pack but it just aint the same once them hounds get on a scent they can be gone and you dont get to see much of the day where as the beagles we were just doing blocks of forestry about 15 acre places then moving on ,so what do they use around you and do you have a preference cheers Quote Link to post
Tassa 64
Hounds or bigger hound crosses work better in the bogs as they have longer legs and it doesn't take as much out of them as the beagles. I have two beagles myself and i love watching them work. On sunday i put them through a few places and when they get on the buzz is brilliant. Sent them through a strip of whins on sunday on a hillside. Just sent them in and encouraged them on and they had a great hunt at a fox from one end right to the other. I stood back from the whins and could see everything. Beagles will work clumps of whins and dense forestry better as they are lower set therefore finding it easier to get through the undergrowth. bullmastiff 615
Must admit the Petit Griffons were a real treat to watch working on rabbits! Small enough to keep up with on foot but with a big enough voice to get the blood pumping! I can't thank Leveller enough for inviting me along! Cheers Luke. Quote Link to post
