I personally think the man has lost his marbles?? He appears too believe you should'nt have a choice in what pro-shooting / fieldsports organisation you want to join, I've just dumped some of his books in the bin, as this is my freedom of choice!! Tom Ps: No wonder membership of SACs is rising with some Basc members having an attitude like this? Remember Basc is a predominatly a shooting and conservation organisation as it title suggests, It has no interest in lurchers or terriers? Therefore why should lurcher and terrier men who have to use a gun to dispatch quarry after using their dogs for flushing!! give their hard earned cash to them?? I have no choice but to join BASC if I want to continue my Wildfowling, but I can see that changing and the club switching to another insurer. You are quoting him out of context but that is probably to be expected because you have also called him a twat. How very pleasant of you. The context from which you have quoted, was that he was saying that BASC had worked for shooters across the spectrum (lobbying etc) and that if you shoot then you should in some way shape or form have something to thank BASC for. That was it. It maybe the case that BASC don't do much for other Country sports but hey, the clue is the name and the last time I checked the letter "S" stood for shooting. But I do try to base my criticism on fact and not on unadulterated mythology. At the end of the day no-one deserves to carry a gun in UK today unless they also carry a BASC membership card. Not only for the insurance (which only costs about £12 of the subscription), not only for the firearms expertise but - above all else - because to shoot at all, we need something to shoot with, somewhere to shoot and quarry to shoot at. Oh I see, so if someone were to read that sentance on its own it wouldn't be out of context were the reader to read say the whole paragraph from which it was taken (and in particular the last two sentances). Indeed, the sub title to this thread is: "If your not a BASC member you should'nt have a Gun". I can also now see that that is exactly what Eric Begbee was saying. My apologies for suggesting that you deliberately quoted someone out of context to give the pot a good stir and do some personal axe grinding. Silly me.
