Guest reload
Very interesting stuff, I have read about it several times.......I dont know alot about whippets, but I think I would steer well clear of any sort of genetic mutation... I doubt it would make a whippet any faster, and not many need to be any faster, if anything they need to be more hardy for the working game. Quote Link to post

Adam-RunningDog 1
thats mad fair play i only ever been able to find one dog picture with it its amazing but the ones with just one doubl muscle jeanlook fantastic i wouldnt mind one of them bet thier flying does anyone specialise in these breeds or are they just a mishap:) think these dogs are amazing although some of you think they are usless i agree with the ones with both parents having the gene useless way to bulky but the ones with just one parent having the gene the dog would be excelent in the field i think, looks a very fast and agile dog, Well i find this a very interstin subject and would like to know more so if anyone has any information let me know please and if ayone has ever whitnessed one work would you mind letting me know about them thanks Adam Edited October 28, 2008 by Adam-RunningDog Quote Link to post

labsnlurchers 39
got be on the roids! they look weird! true but they are not on roids! its a genetic mutation that causes it, over the years of selective breeding (only breeding from the fast dogs) it has become more common. I t is thought that originally it was a mutation of the myostatin gene, this made the dog faster so more likely to be bred from thus causing the gene to be passed on in offspring. Eventually breeders started noticing 'bully' whippet pups in their litters and called in the scientists for dna screening. It was found that the genetic mutation went unoticed when it was present in one copy, the only difference was the dogs speed, when its present in 2 copies as a result of selectively breeding for speed it causes 'bully' whippets. Shooter08 0
here is a 'bully' whippet with 2 copies of the double muscle gene whos dog is that? in my opinion that is wrong. just my opinion tho lol! its called wendy, im not sure who owns her though, got the photo off a website i was looking at. This is a welfare issue.... BUT there is no way of 100% telling if the dog/bitch you breed from without dna/genetic testing carries the gene so it is possible for it to be no ones fault. its looks like the owner has been putting steriods in its afternoon snacks ! thurso jack 3
so is the one gene muscled dog as fast as a normal whippet? obviously the double gene one wont be but how does the single gene dog compare? Quote Link to post
labsnlurchers 39
i have been searching on google for a breeder that breeds them and cant find anything???? I have found someone that bought one from Newton Aycliffe, England. Does anyone know who the breeder could be and whether they work them? As far as i can tell the 'bully' pups are euthanised, only the one copy pups are kept, this may be why people dont advertise that they breed them, animal rights and all that. ' Quote Link to post
