They are bred in Canada and the U.S., where they are called "Windhounds". They are bred down from Borzois, using Whippets;

they are actual whippets, just have a different coat length. they are pedigree whippets, google it mate. i was looking into double muscled whippets the other week and these cropped up a few times. Would be intresting to know if anyone works them

You'll find that there is a big argument in North America, with some breeders saying they are true longhaired whippets, and others admitting they are borzoi/whippet crosses;

The first pic looks like an old line bred collieX I once seen, think it was a David James dog.

 

As for the other... Its just been bred purely for looks, these are just some whimsicle (spelling!) fad for mini Borzoi's and such like.......

The breed standard indicates that the Longhaired Whippet should conform to the general appearance outlined by the Whippet breed standard except, of course, for the longer coat. However, the coat should not prevent the dog from being able to fulfill its function in the field as a hunting dog.[1] They come in a variety of colors including: solid colors like red and black, parti-colors such as red and white, and various shades brindle. They also appear in colors not found in the Whippet such as black or blue grizzle. They range in height from 18-22 inches at the shoulder and usually weigh between 20 and 30 lbs.

Read breed standards and write-ups for most pedigree dogs and they'll tell you the same shite.

 

Why take the gamble when you could have a cold-blood worker to worker whippet, bred in the pink over generations.... and if you fancied a long coat, bang a 'working' Bedlington/Collie/Saluki/Deerhound over it!!

i get what your saying but just because no ones tried it doesnt mean it wont work, i bet there are some long haired whippets out there that do work, its not an impossibility imo never say never
