I have a bitch that came into season in March this year, the fella' I bought her off told me she had an eight month cycle? By that calculation she will be coming into season November, smack bang in the season. I was wondering is this for definite? And can I suppress her heat?

hey, from experience of past bitches they dont always run like clockwork when it comes to seasons,it cant always be a deffinate date.untill you get to knowyour bitch a little better.personally i have a labrador dog and use to dread the days beating n picking up when someone had brought there bitch in season along,it can disrupt days for people with horny dogs.but if people are understanding and just have bitches go for!

Moving homes might interfere with her cycle, or she might come in exactly as due. How old is she? Sometimes they take a while to get into a regular cycle.

You can surpress her heat. There are 2 methods that I know of - both need the vet. You can wait til she starts her season and then she is either jabbed or tablets (can't remember which it is now, was an injection last time I did it). Or you can have her injected now, and then again in about 3 months I think and then again about 4 months after, and then regularly after that. You're best talking to your vet. With either method, you run a risk of ending up with pyometra (womb infection) - I used the first method once and she got a pyo and had to be spayed :(
