Simoman 110
Its linebreeding when it goes ok, and inbreeding when it goes wrong David James used to breed line bred collie lurchers, I think SJM will know more.......... Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
All my lurchers are either in or line bred. Got 3 linebreds eldest is 11 (retired now) youngest is 5 month old pup. Also got 2 youngsters out of a father x daughter mating, they are the most promising pups I have reared for a good while. I have done a few father x daughters and grandfather x granddaughters, have never done full brother to sister which is considered to be the closest you can go, I would argue and say that the closest would be a brother x sister mating from siblings that are allready very tightly bred, because if you bred siblings from a complete outcross mating there would be more genes present to begin with, than if you inbred on what is allready a very inbred line. Hope that makes sense, im no geneticist so explaining it isnt my strong point Quote Link to post

Back Stabbath 1
You've got to really know what you're doing with linebreeding, and you have to know both parents pedigree's (As in know the dogs and what they were like). You've got to be in it for the long haul basically, because there more than likely will be problems so if you want to continue a good line, you need to breed out the bad traits, etc... Hope that helps... Edited October 27, 2008 by Back Stabbath Quote Link to post

harddigging 42
unless youve got unlimmited kennel space and a spare forty years on you hands its not even worth considering Quote Link to post
No messin 2
Pending performance over the next few seasons i hope to line breed from my current dog. I have a number of options but I will likely base my line on my dogs sire Red. I would like to take a litter off him and a quality Greyhound bitch then I would select a bitch pup and rear it and if she enters well proves her self I would mate her and Bouncer together being half siblings and 10/ 16 6/16 Bull cross. I would then take a bitch pup from this litter and also I would mate Bouncer to a Greyhound Bitch and keep a dog pup if the pup was proven and the bitch pup from Bouncer was proven I would mate them together. This would be a long term project. I would like to mate Bouncers sire Red to Greyhound Bitch summer 09 so I should have pups by autumn 09. I would hope to start the bitch on Rabbits autumn 2010 and foxes by autumn 2011 I would then keep her at it for another two seasons bringing me up to 2013 when I would hope she is proven aged 4. Bouncer would be five by 2010. And this is when I would hope to mate him to a greyhound bitch if he has done all that I believe needed to be proven. I would keep a dog pup from this litter. He should be reared and proven by 2014 by which time the Bitch from Bouncer and his half sister would be proven too. I would then mate these two together. Alot of 'ifs' in there and a long time to do it. Quote Link to post
