when to breed?

I MY OPPINION IWOULD NOT BREED FROM ABITCH LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD BY THAT TIME IT SHOULD BE FULLY GROWN

thanks for that,iv had people say a terrier reaches maturity at 24 weeks and if they bleed they can breed,but my dogs health is more inportant than a litter of pups.i shall wait till shes over 2.iv not owned a dog before so listening to advise from people that have.thanks again.

Ideally she should be 3 years old before being bred. For a dog its 2 years. I would definitely wait until, depending what size she is. If she's small you might be alright at two two and a half. If she's large I'd wait until she's three or almost three. You'd be well to get her into condition a few weeks before mating her too, lots of raw meat, some veg, etc.

 

If you bred her too young she'd have a small litter and sickly pups, and she might not be mature enough to look after them. So its worth it to wait.

Ideally she should be a tried and tested worker before breeding from. Ideally you should have plenty of homes for the pups before their even conceived.

If you haven't met these requirements ,don't breed.

Cats and dogs homes are full of unwanted dogs.

HI,TOTALLY AGREE,MY TERRIER IS 2 YEARS OLD AND IS DUE IN SEASON ANYTIME SOON,BUT I WILL WAIT TILL HER NEXT SEASON WHEN THE WEATHER WILL BE PICKING UP.AT LEAST IF YOU WAIT TILL 2 YOU KNOW YOUR DOG WILL BE MATURE ENOUGH TO COPE WITH A LITTER.

if you want to give the dog & the pups the best of everything, i would say first make sure shes a good worker, then wait until shes about three as whats the rush, then you should be on the road to a nice litter & it is true about breeding to young, you have smaller litters & more sickly pups in general.
