ferrets long claws

Recommended Posts

i was just looking at my ferret claws the other day and thought there where getting slightly long and thought of a way i might be able to get them alittle smaller, would to ok to put a small square about 18'' x 18'' of roofers felt in my cage so as the ferrets can scrat away or will it be a waste of time and will the black tar get stuck in the little feet/claws....cheers for any replys.

iv always thaght with longer claws they keep held on to the rabbit and so kill it better meaning you dig more shorter claws have less grip and so cant hang on to them aswell?

Mind get confused and generally kill the rabbit with their teeth :D Commonsense will tell you when the claws require trimming. :victory:

The claws on a wild animal, constantly on the move and working hard for a living are short, look at any mink or stoats. The ferret can still grab its prey with short claws, but if they are left long it looks like there toes are being bent out of line and backwards.

I've had one of mine with a broken claw cause it was left too long, it tried to dig around a rabbit in a rocky tube, didn't really bother it though, it grew out and was clipped a week or so afterwards. :)
