Looking at getting a howa 1500 varmint 223 just wondered if any one has one and thoughts

Apparently still some decent deals about...Mr L had the laminated heavy barrel in .223...good, but weighed a ton...anyway from what I have seen/used them they seem pretty reasonable...but I hate the normal stock...

The Japanese are well known for making lots of things and bring their work ethic to guns as well these days!!:thumbs:

Good gun, but... Personally I'd buy a Remington SPS Tactical which is what I have now.

It's better than my Howa was because:

1. Cheaper - £500 vs £600-£650 (although that was the laminate version)

2. Fast twist barrel - Remington is 1:9, shoots 40gr well, and 75gr well. Not gonna get that from a Howa.

3. 20" barrel, much more versatile with no real loss of velocity. The weight and size of the Howa varmint, at least with the laminate stock, is extreme so not a field gun at all. The Remington will be better from a vehicle as it's much shorter.

4. More accurate. But only by a whisker :) My Howa was great too.
