Tungsten 0
Anyone know where to buy in the uk .223:- 68 grain black hills boat tail hollow point, or a Hornady 69 or 65 grain VMax, or 62 or 70 grain Hornady Tap or Federal 69 grain Sierra Match King BTHP Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Simple answer is no...not specifically, that is all a bit heavier than I use....55g on the whole, 62g max for me....but worth a word with... http://www.peterlawman.co.uk/ http://www.tfsa.co.uk/ ...... or let your fingers do the walking round the web!! Tungsten 0
The reason I am looking for these specific loads is becuase I have a new Savage .223 Model 12 with 1:7 twist, using federal 55 grain loads the thing is shooting wild and it is back at the shop for testing. But Savage will only consider a claim for a faulty rifle if it is checked with Federal 69 grain Sirerra Match King BTHP, BUT the shop I purchased it from cannot find any!!! I phoned savage in the states and they say this is true, but once it is proved to shoot straight (1"-1 1/2" MOA at 100yards) I could try using the ammo listed in my first posting. The shop said I will need to try loading my own (which I itend to do) but if you use any home loads it voids the warranty of the gun and I don't want to go down this road until the gun has been given the all clear using recomended factory loads. Mr Adventure 0
I shoot a Tikka T3 varmint 223 1:8 twist. I relaod using 24.5grains VitN140 with 75g A-max bullets works great. I also found it difficult to get factory ammo with heavy bullets. Have you tried Privi Partizan PPU match Line they use a 75grain bullets, price arround £45 per 100 Henry Krank is the main dealer (I think). I have not used Prive Partizan 223 myself but use their 303 rounds and found them very good. Must say I have no problems with my 1:8 twist barrell using light 55g bullets. I use 55grain FMJ , Sierra Gameking 65 grain and Hornady 75 grain A max and find no difference in accuracy at up to 300yds, over 300 I use the heaver bullets. Quote Link to post
Tungsten 0
Thanks, I nearly purchased a Tikka T3 Varmint myself and changed my mind in the shop!!! dam!!! I am suprised myself at the wild differences I was getting with the 55 grains, not inches but feet at 300yds and completely random patterns.?? Is the 1:7 twsit that tight that it requires special ammo to get an acceptable group.? Quote Link to post

I have the Tikka T3 Lite, 1-8 twist in .223 and it does seem to be able to handle a lot of ammo (including the cheap stuff) quite well, but I note that Sako/Tikka are going back to the 1-12 twist for the .223 which all the equations say is the twist you need!!! Mr Adventure 0
I think you'll find that Tikka are going back to 1:12 twist barrells because there .223 range are primerally getting used for hunting, and the majority of users like using lighter bullets. If you look at the .223 T3 tactical it will use the 1:8 twist because they are used by Military, Police or target shooters who use the heaver bullets for longer ranges. I'm confident to use my T3 .223 up to 500 ,600 and 700yds no problem, this is with 75g Hornady Amax. Quote Link to post
Shauny 0
Hey. I have a Remington 700 VTR with a 9T barrel, and reload 55g fmjbt with 25.5 of BL-C2 which work great. However, I have also started to reload 69g Sierra MatchKings (fmjbt) with 24.5g of BL-C2 and they are tumbling wildly. Is this because I need a bit more of a kick behind them? I am loading at the minimum powder range for this bullet weight so can up the load some. And I have bought stuff from www.midwayuk.com - seem to be ok. MidwayUK For bullets, look here... Specific bullets at MidwayUK Thanks, Shauny. Edited October 25, 2008 by Shauny Quote Link to post

I think I am right in saying I have only used weights between 55-62g in my T3 Lite with 1-8 twist..and some very cheap ammo too, it handles everything well...all the maths says it shouldn't but it does..used it at 500 & 600 yards at Bisley as well with 62g Barnaul and pulled out V Bulls. I have asked GMK and Tikka about the change back to 1-12 and not got any sensible response, I was a little surprised about 3 or 4 years ago when they decided to change the range from 1-12 to 1-8 but heard good things about the 1-8 so I got one, about a year ago I noticed they were bringing the 1-12 back. This is an interesting one and possible the subject of a new thread 1-12 owners and 1-8 owners comaparisons!!! Quote Link to post
