feeding rabbit's to your dogs

Recommended Posts

Thats right Hippychick.

sandymere I didn't read it in the paper. And it was a controlled experiement - of course it was down to the food and not inherited factors.

Cooking kills enzymes in the food so that the body has to work harder to replace them. This is recognised in humans as well as dogs and it is proven. Over generations the enzyme depletion does become evident. Thats one of the reasons why people who eat food that is far removed from its natural state present more health problems than people who eat more fruit, veg, etc. Yes, some of the the veg may be cooked, but there is more enzymes in cooked veg than there is in a mars bar for instance. (extreme example to contrast the junk food eaters v healthy food eaters) The same with raw fed dogs V kibble fed dogs.

There is also a whole range of nutrients in raw veg, etc. that have not even been named yet! And more officially "undiscovered" ones. Our generally accepted knowledge on nutrition is very limited. In theory you can live on all the named vitamis and minerals, but in practice I think we'd see problems.

A dog can live a problem free life on cooked meat. I don't feed my dogs raw all the time, but nature puts everything you need on the earth.

Cooking certainly does not do anything for digestion. It is not as effective because of the enzyme deficiency.

As for the evidence that raw is better than cooked, its there.

I am confused, cannot understand how boiling meat makes it better than raw. Nature usually knows what is best for animals and wild animals have not evolved knowing how to make fires. I know falconers wash rabbit meat to prevent weight gain?

Your confused...... You seem to have your bearings confused as well. Nature did a lot of things...... We used to live in caves, lets see you do it now. We used to eat raw meat ourselves, you go eat a raw rabbit... We used to kill dinasours...... Things move on. Dogs were once wolves, eating raw meat. Then along came a thing called man and domestication....

There is no question that goodness is destroyed when cooking flesh! We only cook our food because over the last 10 or thousand years we have enjoyed the odd Sunday roast by the fire and thought it bought out the flavour in our wooly mammoth a little better. A dog's acid is three or four times stronger than ours and will digest things quicker and more efficiently. Our stomachs cannot handle raw meat as we have changed our digestion process....domestication of dogs hasn't changed theirs for the better. Dry food os cooked and thus takes longer to digest and has nutrients missing.

"sandymere I didn't read it in the paper. And it was a controlled experiement - of course it was down to the food and not inherited factors." (black stabbath) Lordy i didn't mean the news paper lol but a publication of a scientific study and no it was not controlled but two colonies of feral cats.

"Cooking kills enzymes in the food so that the body has to work harder to replace them." (black stabbath) what enzymes, didn't know you could kill one anyway? There are a number of chemical changes brought about by cooking ie cooking begins the breakdown of amino acids giving the digestive system a head start.

I go for mixed feeding as some nutrient are more available from cooked and some from raw.
