Got my youngest son a .38 pistol when he was 8,he only gets to shoot it once a year during vacations but he actually likes fiddling about with guns, likes fishing and such like, its natural curiosity for kids ;)

None of my family or friends were into hunting, but right from a young age i loved and begged my old man for a dog,

although i`de read about hunting and was mad about wildlife i wanted a german shepard,

i suppose the equivilant today would be some kind of bull type on the end of a lead to make me look tough. lol.lol.

Anyway the old man being the tight fisted git that he was {thats where i get it from!!!!!} came home with a jack russell pup when i was around 12 years old, his reason was that a jack russell would eat less and so would be cheaper to keep.

I loved that dog and as my mates were`nt really into dogs or hunting we spent every moment together even to the point of the dog kipping in my bedroom,

As the months went by this dog would be flushing rabbits and marking rat runs under the crap dumped down the canal and round the back of the local supermarket, which we had hours of fun sifting through all the rubbish hoping for a bolt..

One day the dog who was pretty well trained and around twelve months old had his nose glued on a scent,

I`de never seen him this wound up before and i thought Wow whats he on to, we were walking along a railway line and i could`nt imagine what he could be so excited about...

He found a hole in a drainage pipe at the side of the railway track and was gone, next thing i heard was loads of barking and fighting and My Dog squealing like he was really hurt !!!! i was 12 years old crying my fecking eyes out not knowing what was hurting my dog and he would`nt come out of this stinking hole, so trying to find where he was i stuck my ear to the ground/pipe thinking if i banged on the pipe above him and shouted he would come out.

No that just made him worse..!!!! I only lived about a 1/4 mile away so ran home to get my old mans gardening tools and a lump hammer to smash the pipe,

He was still barking and fighting when i got back, {i did`nt think to block the hole} after digging some soil and hardcore from around the pipe where i thought my dog was i broke through virtualy on top of the pair of them,...

Wow a fox i`de never seen one before and through the tears i could see my dog was coverd in blood... well that was it this fox was gonna get it....

Me and my first dog had our 1st fox...

I could`nt and did`nt want to tell my family they would have been horrified and anyway this was our secret our triumph,

they were used to him coming in with loads of bite marks on him i used to tell them he`d been in a fight with another dog, dogs were always roaming loose around where i lived,

A couple of years ago my old man popped his clogs, my self and my sister were visiting him in hospital and he was out of it with the drugs and such like... he said to my sister where`s {my name} i bet he`s down the fields with that fecking dog again ya can never find that little beggar when ya want him..

thanks Dad.. :clapper:

Guest foxyjo.

I loved everyone's photos...each one I could single out and comment on something! :icon_redface: Doesn't it strike you how wonderfully healthy these kids look? Happy, shiney little people!! How kids should be.

Mars, your story was great...lump-in-the-throat stuff. :)
