i ve steamed wood in the past to make the bows of horse drawn carriages,is there a different technique required to curve wood required in the making of ferret boxes, any tips greatly appreciated,

Higgins.

The two methods i have used, although not for Ferret boxes are:-

1. Use two very thin ply sheets, that bend easily, then laminate them together by gluing. It retains the bend very easily, because they are different radii and cant move once the glue is set.#

2. On the inside radius of the bend or thicker plywood, make regular cuts with a depth controlled circular saw, then apply glue to the cuts and bend.

If you have cut an arc in plywood making the top and bottom, it should be easy to hold in place with a few panel pins, whilst the glue sets. unfortunately, i cant tell you the frequency or depth of the cuts, because each application is different and it is only by experience you get it right.

Mine before I fitted the catches and strap.

Tis a nice box that. I have about 5 i think. 1 which was 2 quid from a carboot (a nice roomy square one for my big hob) and another single compartment double box, and a triple from ade33uk (very very nice box) and a double from the ferret box company and one big old thing I never really use but carries about 8 ferrets which is good for big jobs.
