pup with dodgy ear

The other day my pup thought it would be clever to run into a field without me, he slipped under some barbed wire and when he came back he caught his ear on it.. the wire was quite clean lookin (no rust) but as he caught it he tried to pull back. Once it was off it bled slightly but cleaned up well, it was only a little hole. I've treated it but i can feel a slight lump which i'd imagine it the scar tissue damage to the cartilage. It's right at the end, about an inch from the point of his ear. The problem is that his ear isn't flicking back like the other one.. it's flopping forward like a terrier most of the time. Could this be just down to the bruising and that's why it's hard for him to move it? Or could it be something worse like a damaged nerve? Does anyone think he will regain the ability to move it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

it will have burst a few blood vesells mate ,nothing life threatening,

its a sesative area ,i have an older dog thats had the problem and become inflamed

and they just get syringed off ,the fluid build up .and i would think thats what the pups getting

Will probably be fine. I also keep sheep and once they have there ears tagged they hold then differently than before. But only until the wound heals then they go back as before. The lump is just some swelling, same as if you had caught your self on barb. If your really worried then maybe a trip to the vet for a jab just to be sure there isn't any infection. Best of luck.

You are right about scar tissue, and you are very lucky it didnt bleed much. When our whippet nicked his ear it bled and bled. had to put a compress on it, when i took it off he shook his head and you'd think someone had sprayed the walls with a red aerasol, took about four hours to stem the blood.

Pups ears do strange things at the best of times..ie flop in opposite directions especially collie x's by your description nowt to worry about

Cheers for the replies chaps, hopefully it'll be ok... the wound's fine, i was just worried he'd pulled some kind of ear muscle haha. It's just he looks like a dog on a cheap birthday card with one floppy ear.
