Rabbits Decoys

I was out lying in ambush recently i was thinking if a rabbit decoy would work. Like with pigeons - to prop their heads up and position them to make them look alive.

 

Do you think it would make the rabbits feel safer/encourag them to stay out?

 

Just an idea, any comment?

Just got in seen the most rabbits ever tonight easily 35 in one area.

not such a daft idea in theory .Rabbits do seem to react visually to each other but this often only after one or other has made a sudden movement -a hop and skip whilst feeding or marking territory, a leap whilst flirting or fighting or scuttle for cover etc. I'd imagine that due to the fact that their eyes are so close to the ground when feeding they actually can't see very far at ground level(more geared for hawk-watching or spotting lads with air guns ) and use scent to identify each other and detect each other's moods ,sexual receptivness etc.I have seen rabbits sniffing a freshly shot comrade in a curious manner and regular latrines ,chin scrapes (they have a scent gland under the chin) and urine spraying probably mean more to rabbits that the sight of each other at anything but close range. Also I'd imagine that like most mammals they are not good at recognising stationary objects but are quick to react to any strange or interesting movement. So still decoys ?...probably no. Some sort of electronic ,twitching decoy or scent lures? .......maybe. Good old fashioned field-craft? .Yes.

often you see two rabbits chasing each other in a sort of circle would there be anyway of doing this like they do with pigeon decs but on the floor if you get my stink ?

i would try it mate but it would have to be a rabbit from that area as i would imagine that rabbits no who there mates or companions are and would recognise strangers if you catch my drift

i leave mine where they drop if i'm sitting... picking them up leaves a scent, but leaving them sometimes spooks.. worth a go.

When im out lamping if theres two or three together they will run a bit when i shoot the first one often stopping beside the shot one ,but i dont think i would deliberatly put rabbit decoys out

I have not noticed that leaving dead rabbits out attracts others and don't know of any sure fire rabbit attractant!

 

But who knows, got to be worth a try, let us know how you get one.
