Need any help, e-mail me. Quote Link to post
Neal 1,867
A genuine question for Wild Rover, A SME IX and Fireman: as some of you may know I have three kelpies, a nine year old dog and two bitches aged five and one. I've been a big fan of the Australian herding breeds for many years since reading John Holmes' "The Farmer's Dog." but I was led to believe that the Heelers which had been imported into the UK were largely from show lines. Indeed, this was one of the reasons I chose kelpies instead of heelers to use for rabbiting. From what I've read the quality of the dogs you've produced is unquestionable so does this mean that what I'd heard about the heelers in this country is wrong? This is a genuine enquiry and I'm really hoping to be proved wrong! Maybe the source I heard it from was merely referring to the heelers which had been imported being USED as showdogs rather than them being derived from show blood; if that makes sense. I must admit I've heard of a couple of people in the UK using pure heelers for ferreting so maybe my sources were wrong. Thanks in advance! Quote Link to post

Thanks in advance! your sources are correct neal.i knew i was walking unsure ground,i took a gamble to rear my acd as a working cattle dog to see what instinct these dogs had. and belive me my healer didnt need any encouragment when introduced to the livestock. asme9 Quote Link to post

Hello mate, my first acd lurcher was about 15 years ago, this was bred by my mate, I went with him to pick the acd pup, it was from people who had bred from their show dogs, this blue pup became a worker, guard and awesome beast. All the pups turned out to be good workers, Phil Lloyd had one as well, I now have a nearly 9 year old, acd/grey x acd/grey, been great worker, still is, he is last in line. I also have a 10 month ACD/GREY/WHIP from Wales, bred from a Blue dog who works hunts etc, I feel most ACD have the ability to work, show bred or not, over the last 15 years I have not one poor report on any of the pups. Hope this helps. WR Quote Link to post
