Dave C 63
Possibly my best day Bushing. Had possibly my best day with the pack at the weekend, we headed up the dale and hunted an old quarry, we hadn’t been there for about 1 year and we couldn’t wait as we knew it held a lot of rabbits, last time the terriers got a few but the lurchers had a night mare, the ground is tough going for them, very rocky, cliff faces and where the ground is flat there is thick bushes and scrub land, not giving them much space to manoeuvre. This time things were different and our young pack was a year older, the action started as soon as we got there, the Terriers taking 1 in the bushes, My lurcher paddy then jumped about 8 foot right into a bush of wild raspberries landing on a nice big buck, I was over the moon, for a big dog this type of ground should not suit him at all, but today he was on fire, every short dash that the terriers put out last year only frustrated him as he couldn’t get to terms with them on such a short dash or they turned him once and into another bush, but this year he filled his boots, nothing got passed him and he made catch after catch, taking 9 in all it was definitely his day. Sandy (Whippet boys Lurcher) also worked well, but it was her turn to be frustrated by the bunnies, although she did take a big buck rat next to the lake, which gave her a nasty bite for her trouble, she still took 3 rabbits which will help her confidence for our next outing. After taking a few more with the terriers we headed up to a corner of the fell and were very disappointed to see the amount of mixi that was there, we must have taken 8 or 9 rabbits that couldn’t walk never mind run, there was no sport in it but we cleaned a few up anyway, the only positive thing was it gave Tilly WB’s new Border Lakeland a chance to take a few and learn more about what we were hunting. The terriers all had a good day and tallied up about 11 between them, I was also over the moon with Fudge my little hound x Cocker, she took 3 herself and the last 1 she retrieved for about ¼ of a mile not letting any other dog near it until she gave it to me. That is when I discovered that my memory card in the camera had a fault and all pics were lost, was absolutely gutted, there was some lovely scenery and excellent sport all lost. Never mind will have to go back and do it all again. Dave. Quote Link to post
