Yokel Matt 918
It had been one of thoses weeks and i felt i needed a bit of time to myself to unwind... i went to a mates patch of wood to do bit of high pruning and chainsawing as it was an ongoing job and it was a good excuse to check out the deer activity. I'd been fishing the day before and had brought a pre-prepped fish along to cook on a fire during the very long break i intended to have between jobs A six pack would have gone down quite nicely as well but as i had to both drive and operate a chainsaw decided it wasn't the best idea I arrived in the wood, mainly comprising of Douglas Fir but with a few old oak and cherry dotted around and almost immediatly saw a small group of Sika hinds, two females and a young fawn. I was pretty unprepared and didn't manage a pic but it was great to see them as i had only seen Roe and the occasional mob of fallow in here before (still trying to convince my landowner friend to let me take a couple a year for the freezer ... and to reduce the tree damage of course). Almost immediatly after this i saw a rabbit... another first in the wood for me but this chap wasn't as lucky and i dropped him with the 12g i brought along for squirrels. After a bit of brashing a decided i need a brew so got a small fire going and decided to chill and take it all in for a while. Without sounding too corney there was something really soothing about the smell of the Douglas fir in the air, the birds twittering with the occasional pop of wood on the fire. I had a bit of a dilema on whether to use the fish i caught the day before or the rabbit i had just shot. The fish won as the rabbit was a little past his first flush of youth and had that distinct 'buck' aroma about him. The fish worked suprisingly well in the foil... it kind of steamed in the tin foil and puffed up like a bag of popcorn There was quite a bit of deer activity in the area going by the marks in the soft ground and the browse lines on the ivy... the scrapings look like they were done by roe and have had time to heal since their rut. Couldn't see and sign of sika or fallow rutting but i'm pretty new to this game... the signs may have been there but didn't register... finger crossed though Edited October 21, 2008 by Local

SportingShooter 0
Nature Therapy, nothing like it anywhere. I think Serenity describes the scene in pictures above, apart from the single blast from the gun, but then, it all settles down again after those few seconds. richard25 0
That looks bloody lovely mate, you got yourself a right spot there. I think from time to time everyone would benefit from some time in the woods like others have mentioned you cannot buy that peace & quite for love nor money, the sad thing is its hard to find a nice place like that these days where you can have alittle fire & just chill out, i cant tell you the last time i have been able to do that in england & find myself allways going on the long but beautiful trip upto Scotland where Wild Camping is Allowed & nature still rules the forest lol. Dam i wish there were more places where abit of wild camping is acceptable. Lovely pics mate & you could tell just by the background you had a nice time.
