Guest david1976
I was out roe stalking in the forestry permission i have this morning when i noticed a young fox walking through some sheep in a clearing. I tried my two rabbit squeal calls - an acme plastic and a nickel widgeon whistle and also squeaked my hand but the fox did not even turn it's head to look, instead it sat down behind the sheep. It was about 300yds away and i wasn't prepared to take the shot as the sheep were too close to it so i took a detour round the clearing and came out about 50 yards behind it where i shot it as it looked down a banking. Afterward i realised that in this forestry there are no rabbits or hares and that the fox probably lives off mice, voles berries (lambs at lambing time) etc. With this thought in mind could anyone recommend a squeaker to use that would imitate small rodents they have had results with? FOXHUNTER 5,021
You can get a mouse squeaker , you just squeeze it with your fingers and it makes a squeak like a mouse ! I used to have one but lost it out of my pocket , it is OK on still evenings to pull charlie in those last few paces !! Quote Link to post

Are these things quiet like a mouse or do they work for distance? i.e. does it work for drawing them in like a rabbit call would or only once the fox is actually close by Quote Link to post

Guest JohnGalway
You know those toys that squeak when you squeeze them? Well take out the squeaky bit And there you have it. Since I like buying stuff *sighs* I got the one Primos does, it's basically the same as the squeaky toy noise bit. I've got one fox with it so far since I got it, wrong side of the wind as well. FOXHUNTER 5,021
It depends how hard you squeeze it , you can have it very quiet or louder . Remember a foxs hearing is far more superior to ours , a little squeak is sometimes enough to bring it within range Edited October 22, 2008 by FOXHUNTER Quote Link to post
