One piece or two piece mounts....I've never known an arrester block being required with good mounts!! If the arrestor block means you are messing up your eye relief it may well be time to give up and start again!! Quote Link to post

camies 1
Arrestor blocks and my beast of a HW35. Arrestor blocks have always been a pain and most owners of springers know that they don't always work unless you have drilled blocks to fit studs into. With my beast, despite spending good money on "top quality mounts" , my scopes (before they died from being shaken apart) always crept back after a few tins of pellets. Arrestor blocks worked (ish) but same problem as you i.e. neck ache and poor eye relief. So, in the truest tradition of "Botchit" I expoy'd a top of a HSS drill into the rear drilled hole (see picture attachments) and have never looked back since. The beauty of it is that I can use any cheap and nasty scope mounts and, as the scope mount is so far back, I can use most any scope. Getting older has increased my long sighted(ness) and scope relief is now becoming a more important factor. Luckily my old Tasco (the only one to stand the test of time) has an eye relief of 4" but, in time, I can still move the stud forward (Mole grips permitting). Of course the PCP Harrier does not have this problem as no recoil! I talked to my friendly gunsmith who apart from laughing over the years at my botch, tells me that the problem of recoil creep still happens with one peice and even the rubber dampened one peice mounts. It's all down to Physics i.e. a springer thrashes round, and your beautiful scope takes time to catch up with the violent motion. (Think thats what he said anyway). End result is I think is his desire to sell more PCP's but he did have a point. Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
ahh yes... dont forget to let the presure off the block everynow and then.. you'll be surprised how much builds up over time. and maybe use a three inch eye releif scope. Already taken care of Ta, my Tasco does the rounds from rifle to rifle almost on a daily basis. My wife says I should get another life! The eye relief on 3" scopes was a problem until my gunsmith found the old Tasco. Now, no problem. 4" great (size matters). The only optic I own where it does not matter is the single point but, being optical neutral, it wouldn't. Sad thing getting older...... Thanks for the comment though. Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
if i remember rightly, my HW80 only had two holes, the back one shown there wasnt there, didnt have eye relief problems with it though.. hmmm, food for thought though. the resta block did eventualy ping off the dovetail, made me jump, day before i'd bin bit by a horse fly right on my finger tip..thought it was one of those. gazguildford 0
ok sorry for the late reply my arrestor block is on my gamo cf-x it sits about half inch into the scope rail i have a hawke hd sport 3x9 -40 scope but i find to be comfortable the scope has to sit as far back on the rail as poissible but after the arrestor block is on the scope is then pushed about an inch out of my comfort zone so i think its either going to need a new 1 piece scope mount or a scope extention to be perfectly honest im beginning to think the synthetic stock is maybe to long for my shorter build is this possible? ghillies 209
test your stock, stand as though you were going to shoot, drop your trigger arm away, then just lift to to see where your hand naturaly goes,(dont reach for the trigger mind..) every stock i've had to date fell short to this method.. (it's what i was told.) Quote Link to post
