wood smoke 0
This is a bit hard to put into words to explain clearly but here goes.... if say a pedigree dog example dalmation where to be accidentaly covered by example a doberman dog ,the bitch had her pups and then in the future she was bred only ever to pedigree dalmations is it possible that a black and tanned or any other characteristic of a doberman can crop up in future dalmation litters ???? This quetion started when a german sheperd coverd a borzoi years ago and the owner whent beserk saying his champion bitch was ruined for good.... i didnt think this was possible and still dont however a dog breeder a couple of weeks ago swears blind it perfectly true, yet a lab breeder say unlikely.... HAS anyone got a definnitive answer ??? W.S
tote 854
Can't believe there's any truth in that story wood smoke. It'll be interesting to see what others have to say.
Pignut 4
Casting my mind briefly to a genetics class at school, I cannot see how the original bitch dalmation would be able to subsequently produce any eggs for fertilization for mating with another dalmation that were "tainted" from a previous mating. It just doesn't work that way, does it?

Thats the thing people either swear blind it can happen or just doubt it like me cos it sounds unlikely.... never once have i been convinced either way...
labsnlurchers 39
no that statement is not true, if its a dalmation bred to dalmation the pups CAN NOT carry any characterisitcs of another breed. Sperm from the previous doberman mating would have perished long ago. i have a BSc (hons) in animal science. Edited October 20, 2008 by labsnlurchers
lonedigga 22
In my opinion it,s an old wives tale, one that i don't believe at all even the most basic knowledge of reproduction would show it's a myth..

HAS anyone got a definnitive answer ??? W.S if i get the gist of this the answer is... No only the pups would carry the gene ...it would be like your missus sleeping with your red haired pigmy mate and her having his child ...you forgive her and then you you have children, with her they wont carry any of his genes or throw any red hair pigmys...Though the your mates child may lol... If the dalmation xdoberham pups are bred back to dalmation through generations ..there may be some charactericts passed on through the resulting generations..Labradors occassionaly through whites pups not yellow or white flashes on chests ,,paws..there was once a white flecked coated line of labradors which could be traced back to one stud dog...It was a reccesive gene.. gnasher16 30,121
Cant work out whether this thread is a wind up or not......its like saying if a white woman has a kid with a black man and then later in life has a child with a white man the child may come out black ! ....please say its a wind up.
