Yep, you can get rangefinding scopes for air rifles.... they cost a fortune :(

At air rifle ranges, 20-40 yards, there's not really any need for one. A little practice and a few tricks and you should have no problems judging distance to the target.

Silhouettes - cut out a few life size bunny shapes from cardboard or thin ply.... pace out 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 yards and get used to how big they look at those ranges. You can use the same trick with bird sized ones, or decoys etc.

Ranging pegs - get some wood [i use hazel about and inch or so thick] make pegs with it, long enough to push 6" into the ground and have about a foot sticking up, either shave the bark off from the top 4-6" so it's easily seen, or slip an empty shotty shell over the top. place these at 10, 20, 30, and 40 yards in places you shoot regularly e.g. near knows warrens etc etc.

Tips... practice judging range at night as well as in the day, things seem closer at night and you'll need a little practice to master this. Remember if you're shooting up into trees the tree might be 30 yards from you, but firing up will add a little distance.... most tree quarry like birds and squirrels have a very small area for a clean headshot being off a little may well make the difference between a hit and an embarrassing miss ;)

Hope this helps .... happy hunting :)

Edit - I beleive Timelord has a rangefinding setup on his. i'm sure he'll be able to explain how it all works :)

I don't have an actual range finding scope but I do use a laser zeroed at 30 yards and use my mill dots on my scope to guage this range ;)

Hawke optics have a range finding principal on their scopes with the SR6 and SR12 reticles

some thing like the cutom 10-40's or niko sterling 10-50x60 side wheel parralex do get used in target shoots, mark up the wheel on 50 mag its fairly accurate for dialing in.. read of the range, dial in the clicks and it's all on the cross hair.

nice but impracticle for hunting, unles your tucked in nice with plenty of time for it.(infact it's a doozy...)

wouldnt a scope with AO be classed as range finder im, not sure..

Yes it would mate, because you can either set the objective lens up at a certain yardage/meterage, and shoot only when the target is pin-sharp and clear.

Or you can look at the target, and focus the objective cowl until it is sharp and have a look at what the numbers on the cowl of the objective lens are telling you in respect of the distance involved.

Either way, a scope with an Adjustable Objective is classed as a rangefinding scope.
