Back to the running ground

Recommended Posts

We had a look out this morning, back to our running grounds otherwise known as "the woods" :feck::doh:

Not such good weather as last week, windy, cloudy, cold and a bit drizly and the morning went by much slower and wasnt quite so "action packed", mind you some of the action we could have done without today; about half way through the morning, Nuala ran into a tree and screamed the place down. Normally she'd pick herself back up and continue the chase but not today  she howled the place down and came limping back  After checking her over she seemed to be able to weightbear ok, so hopefully she's just bruised herself. Was just about to grab her to put her in the car to rest her, when they were off after another, but it was clear she couldnt cope, and when they came back with Indies catch she was put in the car for the rest of the day.

We took a couple of ferrets that we know work well along with two of this years kits, one a sandy hob we got from Eggy off "M.oochers", and another we got from my daughters boyfriend, who she has named "Gillian" All ferrets worked well, but little Gillian was a star. She is really tiny and never have I seen a kit work for the first time the way she did today, she was amazing :good:

First time to ground she bolted within a couple of minutes, second time she was attached to the rabbit, which Indie proceeded to grab just as it was exiting the hole, a bit of a hairy moment  In any case, apart from looking a little dazed, and a "what the hell was all that about" glazed look on her face, she just carried on, bolting rabbits, 2 at a time sometimes, a bit frustrating with only one dog in action. Afternoon came, and seized to a halt, it was very slow, after the last catch we called it a day and made our way back. Hopefully Nuala will be ok -I gave her a rub down with linament when we got back this afternoon - fingers crossed, its a horrible feeling.

Thanks for all your comments.

Runsforyourlife, its a Nikon D50, and no I just enjoy taking pics of the dogs working, something to look back at when they're old and retired, not something I'd wish to make money out of.

Thankfully Nuala is much better today, she's been bouncing about the place as normal - just goes to show how resilient they can be. She's been rested a couple of days, will see what shes like out tomorrow. They do get used to running in conditions like that, as do the rabbits..
