weejohn 3
went to some new permission for the first time on friday night and shot 6 foxes and 2 rabbits. i had only just parked the van , had a wee shine on the hill and spotted the first, got the rifle out clipped on the striker gave a squeel and it came running in , gave it a whistle and shot it, it was a nice vixen. gave another call and another 1 came in but was weaving through bracken so had to be patient for a shot.this 1 was a big dog fox. i could hear the 3rd calling away up the hill where the 2nd had came from so called and this also came in but went down a gully and i lost sight of it so shot a bunnie then went over to the edge of the gully and shot the fox . it looked like 1 of this years cubs a small dog. i had a wee walk around the hill but never saw any more so moved off to try another bit. i spotted the 5th fox on the face of a hill but the grass was so long i really couldnt shoot as i could only see eyes so called away for probably 15 minutes untill it eventually showed its self for a shot so i was just about to line up when the 4th fox walked out the grass into a nice clearing only 10 yards from the other fox so shot that then quickly lined up on the 5th fox and shot that. these were 2 lovely big dog foxs. number 6 drove me mad slowly walking through the long grass untill it presented itself for a shot. closest fox was probably 50 yards and the furthest was about 150 - 175 yards. and on the way back to the van i shot another bunnie. it was 45 minutes drive to this bit but was well worth it. i also shot this 1 saturday night , a small vixen, looked like this years cub.everything was shot with a tikka t3 in 22-250 Edited October 19, 2008 by weejohn Quote Link to post

weejohn 3
yes the 22-250 does the job. i was actually thinking of getting a 234 but this calibre works perfectly fine. as for pest control i actually told the farmer i was going out for rabbits but i took the 22-250 instead just incase and i am glad i did. on this estate the keeper must be the only keeper that doesnt shoot foxs untill they actually do damage. the farmer said i was to shoot foxs so i have Quote Link to post
