will.f11 24 Posted October 19, 2008 Report Share Posted October 19, 2008 Got up this morning, fed the ferrets and went to meet my mate up on some moor we had been asked to clear out the rabbits. At about 11am we got there and put our fist batch of nets down. was a nice long 60-100 holed hedgerow. We me and my little brother and my friend antony netted up the closest side or the hedge and anthony [bANNED TEXT] on the other with the shotgun and the sprocker... I honestly cant remember much about this hedge except that we had about 4 on the gun and 5 in the nets. not too bad as it was quite windy by now and wasnt ideal ferreting weather. but still, we picked up all the nets, chucked a few rabbits about for the dog to practise his retrieving (hes only a youngun) and moved onto the second hedge. By now it was windy as hell but although nothing was bolting we decided to go ahead with a bit of sport. netted up the closest side and shot on the other. We took about 2 rabbits from this hedge although we think the ferrets probably killed about 3 or 4. By this time our other friend luke had arrived with his over and under 12 bore so, as one of anthony's sandys had layd up we decided to leave him to it and net a few other sets. the day ended there for us rabbit wise as nothing else entered our bag from that point onwards. I banged 2 of my ferrets into a medium sized warren and hoped to bolt to the gun but... we had a lie up with both ferrets. Luckily there was a stone pile near by so we blocked in every hole except the one I last saw them in and left the box out with some livers in it. went on our way to do a bit of bushing with the spaniel and ferret a couple bigger sets up top. but apart from about 2 rabbits flushed to the gun that was it. although it wasnt very fast moving or productive we had a goodun and were pleased we went. 11 rabbits by ferret and 2 by the dog.
