Coatesy900 0
Went out to a small warren close by this afternoon. Weather was absolutly awful, and I didnt exactly have permission, so had to keep looking over my shoulder all the time - but I was determined. When I arived I netted the ten most likely holes (all the nets i have unfortunatly...) and entered my albino hob. It was his first time, but went straight down the hole. Waited about ten minutes, but didnt know what was going on underground at all or where he was as I dont have a locator, and couldn't hear any of the usual thumping for the wind. I sat down on the banking, and waited some more. When I next looked up, there was a big buck rabbit in one of the nets, and a doe in another! I jumped up, grabbed the buck and broke his neck, then dropped it and ran over to the doe and did her too. The ferret had not surfaced yet, so I quickly tried to untangle the dead rabbits, and replace the nets. While I was doing so, the ferret surfaced behind me and I put him back in his box. After untangling the buck, I chucked him on the grass and he was up and away! The bloody thing had been faking it the hole time, and made a good job of it too. In my haste to get to the other rabbit, I must have made a half-arsed job of it. Anyway, he ran into a nearby set of holes which I hadn't noticed before, so thats next weekend's job Got soaked, cold and muddy, but it was worth it. Not just for the rabbit, but because I've re-caught the ferreting virus... as well as the cold one! Quote Link to post

will.f11 24
I always feel around the neck to see whether it is still attached on or not, if it is just give it another pull. Ive never had a problem with that. Also just blow into its eye and if it is still alive it will just blink, if not hes dead. also if a rabbit has a really tuff neck then just try your hardest to pull his neck and then hold his back legs, put his body on the floor and then do 1 real hard karate chop, not ideal but does the job if needed. also I leg them and thumb them as I catch them so if he was still alive I wouldnt like to see it run off with its legs attached together... I'd like to see that when more than one comes out, if your not getting the neck pulling right, I'd suggest you both get yourself a priest Quote Link to post

Coatesy900 0
Just made myself a Priest from a section of pine banister strut, with a hole drilled into the top and some lead melted in. Will probably die of lead poisoning in a few years, but i think it will do the job nicely. Just got to stain it and it will be grand Cheers Victor. Quote Link to post
